Looking for advice on where to travel in India during monsoon without getting too soggy!
We are travelling in India from the 25th May to 21st June. We were originally hoping to do some beach sunbaking but as we are arriving in the monsoon we imagine this is out of the question. Thinking of trying our luck in Goa then Kerala and then inland once monsoon season starts. Or maybe we should head north and do Delhi, Agra, Jodphur.......
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Reply to this From what I have heard (no personal experience, i leave on 30th may and will be in india for 4 weeks) the monsoon hits the south part of the country first and then heads north. I think it also comes in a little later than you are thinking; i.e you will probably be alright on the coast for a while. I've also been told it's not as bad as people expect; more like heavy rain for a couple of hours in the afternoon than all day, and as long as you aren't going too much off the beaten track then it doesn't disrupt what you want to do. But as i said, i have no personal experience! I will be staying firmly in the north, starting at delhi and going up to amritsar and dharmasala before heading to vietnam, and i'm expecting the monsoon to affect me more in vietnam/laos/cambodia than india.
I hope you have a wonderful time! i think the main thing is to be flexible; don't plan so that you'll be very disappointed if the weather turns bad, and have another option.
Reply to this Hi, We travelled in India in July of last year. Monsoon had yet to hit Delhi when we arrived on July 5th (but it was overdue and incredibly hot...mid 40s). We travelled through Rajasthan and then down to Ahmedabad and Mumbai. It was only really in our last week that the rain started to have any major impact on our plans. There were a few days we couldn't do much and the week we left India, Mumbai and the surrounding area were badly flooded. When it does rain it does come down pretty hard and you can get stuck indoors for an entire day but I think you should be gone before monsoon really kicks in. Enjoy India is an incredible place. The Indian people are so happy when the rains do come that you have that as a bonus even if you are a little damp. EdAm
