I'd be grateful for any recommendations for budget accommodation in Delhi, ideally looking at up to $25 a night for a double/twin room. Going in September. Thanks
Reply to this Budget hotels are available at "Paharganj" area of Delhi which is 5mins by walk from New Delhi Railway station.
The rooms are available in the range of 10-25USD.
You can walk across the street and explore yourself before settling for your choice of room and budget.
This area is centrally located and you may find many fellow travellers around!
Reply to this You might check it out the list of hotels here , they have from 23 USD for 2 Star Hotel, it is quite good.

The good news is that u have more to spend on accomodation than a budget traveller. A budget traveller can get a double room in Delhi for around 5 dollars per night.
What about a home stay? The following appartment is recommended by the Lonely Planet.

Reply to this Hi Ruth
I would recommend that you can try guest houses as well. There are some pretty good guest houses that you can get for about that price range.

Reply to this Actually 2 years back when my sister was getting married, her friends from US were visiting us. I had booked a guest house called Holiday Inn for them (it is in the posh south delhi). Also I had made arrangements so I paid in Indian currency and bargained the price. The guest house owners did not know that foreign tourists were going to visit at the time of booking. If you end up making the bookings, they will charge you the dollar amount. All hotels and guest houses have 2 different rates - one for indian citizens and the other for foreigners. Unfortunately I too am in India else I would have helped but can certainly find more details for you.
