Hi All,

I will be interningfor a NGO in Phnom Phen (PP) for 2 months in May and June. I am hoping to get a furnished apartment\serviced apartment for the duration. Could someone who is in PP, or has been to PP, offer any advice on:
  • Which area should I stay at?
  • How much should I be look at for a 1 bedroom\studio(bachelor apt.)?
  • Any suggestions on people whom I can talk to regarding this?

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestion as I cannot seem to google this information.

Regards,

SK.

Hey Stanley,

I am off to intern in Phnom Penh as well, although I'll only have 5 weeks (20th Oct - 24 Nov ish). Did you end up getting an apartment? If not, where did you end up staying? Have you got any advice/tips from the time you were over there? Most importantly, did you have a good time?!!

Many thanks in advance,

I would suggest staying in lakeside or nearby - its probably the friendliest / cheapest backpacker area. If your going for a guest house, try sister no. 9 as its cheap, clean and offers discounts if your staying for a while. If you really want an apartent I suggest asking your NGO to find one for you before you arrive.

my only other tip - the last friday of every month is a major party at 'elsewhere' - it'll probably be in you first week and its absolutely awesome... Reply to this

Hi all,

I am back in Canada now but I was in Phnom Penh for slightly over 2 months earlier this summer. I had a terrific time in an amazing city. As for accommodations, I ended up staying at the NGO office but many of my colleagues were able to secure short term apartment rentals (i.e. 2- 3 months). The only drawback is that they were rather large apartments and it makes more sense to split it between a number of roommates. I think the going price is around $150 per month per room + electricity/garbage removal in a safe neighbourhood.

Lexi, if you are interested, a friend of mine (male\French) has an awesome 3 bed-room apartment with a large roof-top terrace near Manivong and Sihanouk Blvd. and is looking for a roommate. I'll be more than happy to put you in touch with him.
