I need some assistance before I arrive on bus and train travel.
I've done a great deal of groundwork prior to making a June trip to SE Asia (from the Philippines) and need a little help from those on the ground there or those that have done the trip.
Initially, I'm flying into Singapore and proceeding to Ho Chi Minh City before boarding a plane back to Manila.
Is the train as economical from Singapore to KL as the bus?
And do I have to disembark from the train to clear immigration into Malaysia as I would if travelling by bus?
After a couple days in Singapore and a stopover in KL I board a train for Bangkok. A transfer at Butterworth is in order?
Bangkok to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There is a $30 fee for the Cambodian visa at the Thai-Cambodian border. And the visa can be obtained at the border??
Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City.
Is it possible to get a Vietnam visa at the border - the same way it's possible to obtain at the Cambodian border? If not, if someone would please assist with recommendations, how long, where to apply, etc.)
I know the journey would be much quicker if by air, but the intent is to do a stopover at many of the locations enroute.
Thanks for your help.

I've moved your post to the Asia forum where you are more likely to get responses.
I can't give you any information on trains from Singapore to Bangkok, although I would ask if there is a reason for travelling all the way by train, rather than flying some legs?. It is a hell of a long journey and budget flights are cheap. I can understand some of the stopovers, but are you planning to go all the way from KL to Bangkok without an actual stopover?
You can get the Cambodian visa on arrival, or if you prefer you can arrange an e-visa in advance though this website: https://www.evisa.gov.kh/. I haven't done it so I don't know about the advantages. i guess you wouldn't have to wait in line at the border.
It is now possible for people from many countries, including the Phillipines as far as I can see, to get a visa waiver for Vietnam for a short visit. Otherwise you have to arrange for a visa in advance. You can get it from an embassy or you can arrange for a company to get you a pre-approval letter, which you use to get a visa at the border. Many people I know have used myvietnamvisa with success.
Hope this helps.
Note to Vietnam visa agents and travel agents - you are not allowed to advertise on the forums so please do not offer your services to this poster. Advice is nice, but advertising is not. Thanks
Reply to this In response to: Msg #196150 Please get an evisa done for Cambodia before you travel. It's hassle free, I have done it before; The visa arrives online within 24 hours; no questions asked. It saves you time when you arrive in Cambodia. I haven't done Pnom Penh, but in Siem Reap, it was a piece of cake if you already have a visa.
Reply to this Hello all,
Nice to see here in this discussing. Recently I had visited Singapore by bus & my journey was booked from complete India & Asia. Really my journey was so wonderful. I really feel the beauty of nature. So I think travel by bus is so enjoyable.
