I'm female and currently travelling NZ on my own. I would like to stop over in India for 6 weeks on the way back, is it safe to do as a lone female and is it more difficult to meet other travellers out of the hostel setting?
Reply to this My husband and I were in India three months ago. I found when I went out alone I did get pestered more. Out as a pair most beggers/hawkers/rickshaw drivers would approach him first. Out alone, I never felt unsafe. But, just like anywhere, being a female alone you do need to keep your eyes open to avoid potentially unsafe situations.
There seemed to be a fair number of single travellers, most being the budget early 20s type.
Reply to this In India, you don't really travel alone. If you get on with other travellers then you end up travelling together. I was horrified at first, but actually find it exciting travelling alone. I have experienced all those scary stares, being groped and accidentally touched.... But the positive experience outweights the negative experience. I enjoy India so much and would want to go back soon.
Reply to this Dear Pinna,
This is Naveen from India New Delhi.
I just read the message post by you and would like to tell you that it's safe for women to travel alone but do not try to travel alone during night time when you will be in India as it is not safe.
If you need any other information then you can contact me any time.
Regards,
Naveen
