Traveling through Tokyo in January.
On an extended layover arriving from Bangkok, will spend 3 nights in Tokyo in January, 2014. Would like information on inexpensive but clean hotels in good location for tourists & suggestions on what to do within this timeframe. Do you recommend any overnight or day trips outside of Tokyo?

The
Toyoko Inn chain is a good reliable chain of budget hotels. They are always within walking distance of main railway stations, and have free internet access and free breakfast.
If I'm planning on staying in hotels when in Japan, I usually don't bother looking at other options.
