I'm going in summer, does anyone know the best way to travel around peninsular malaysia? is there a backpacker bus service like in New Zealand, or is it easy to find cheap buses everywhere?
As a side note, does anyone know if there is a monsoon season? i'll be travelling mainly up the east coast from JB, perhentian islands, tioman etc etc.
cheers
Reply to this Hi,
Although there is no dedicated backpacker bus service but buses are easily available to the connecting destinations. Malaysian tourism dept has posted updated info which can help you for further planning your trip at -

Monsoon season for east coast of peninsular Malaysia is from Nov-March. More details are available at Malaysian Meteorological Department's website-

Apart from above once your itenerary is confirmed, the available travel modes and bus fare can be advised.
Happy holidays.
Reply to this Hii,
there are three type of trains which work in KL ==> Monorail , Putra and LRT i believe you can cover most of the KL city using these trains and ticketr is also cheap .
The fourth train which you can use to commute from KL International Airport to Kuala Lumpur is the KLIA express .
I recommend you to travel by trains , this will be cheaper for you and very convenient too.
There are rains almost alternate days so better to have your Umbrella ready .
cheers.

Reply to this Hello, You can try to visit this site at:
Malaysia. It gives you all the tourist attractions and hotels in Malaysia. You can fly to Singapore and travel to Malaysia by train or bus. Then from Malaysia you can also visit Thailand by train. It is easy to buy tickets when you are there. Just have one day before you take your trip buy your tickets, but there is not much of a problem in buying tickets. I did this travel last Apri l2004 so I know what is the arrangement. You can also search this ''Eastern and Oriental express'' train operator thru google search. Good luck!
