HI there.. I'm from and in malaysia... This is time of the year, your choices are quite limited which is fine since you only have a week. You'll be arriving in Kuala Lumpur, i guess. So, spend a couple of days in the city... walk around the city and take a ride on double decker bus, you could get most info. from the airport or visit this site http://www.tourism.gov.my/. Beach and sunbathing would not be a good idea, it's the monsoon season unless you wanna surf. Go to Malacca, the historic state of Malaysia, there you could see interesting museums and architetures from the colonial days (Malaysia used to be known as Malaya and had been occupied by the Dutch, Portugese and the British)... You could take a cheap flight to Eastern Malaysia, Borneo, the state of Sabah and Sarawak, climb the highest mountain of Southeast Asia, Mount Kinabalu, the view is spectacular upthere... You can go to the jungle!?!.. You can go into the cave!?!... Well, it really depends on what you are looking for... GoodLuck!!!... You'll enjoy it.. oh ya... money... not much, a plate of fried rice or noodle from a local stall would cost you about RM5, cheaper than Mcdonal's meal... restaurant meal maybe RM20-30.. so go figure that out!?!.. I would say RM 100 is comfortable for a day, of course some backpackers could do with only RM20 a day... ENJOY!!! Reply to this

Hiya, i have a suggestion for a great backpackers hostel in KL, its called Red Palm, a fantastic little place, small, homely and full of life. Stayed there on 2 seperate occasions in my summer travels to malaysia. But i would definetly book in advance as its very popular, just do a google search and it should come up.

Hope you have a great time, i have been to malaysia 3 times and have had 3 fantastic holidays. Reply to this

i think you should head out to the Cameron Highlands. Its pretty chill there compared to the bustle of KL. You can go hiking, visit tea plantations and in the afternoons drink tea and eat scones. Reply to this

hey, other guest houses which are def clean and close to city centre (bukit bintang area: full of shopping if you're interestesd) is GuestHouse Number Eight, or oyu can also google "Jalan Alor, guest houses". Lots of food (hawkers, pubs, bars, restaurants) in that area which are crazy cheap (RM3-10) for a full on tasty meal; chinese, malay, indian cuisine.

If you're looking for something more cultura and historical, head north to Penang! Lots of pre-war houses and buildings there have been restored in the past decade, so it's really lovely to go and have a look. Historical/ Heritage trails in Penang are also available, and that would cover at least one whole day. You can have a guided trail or do the trail on your own... Food is amazing, and there's a beach there (Batu Ferringhi beach) with loads of guesthouses and backpacker pubs.. You can catch a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Penang for about RM35-50. Journey takes 4 hours and the buses are real comfy too.

Hope this helps! Reply to this
