Hi there!

I actually have never used a lonely planet guide..well I should say traveled with one. The only time I have ever used lonely planet is when I can't find information on transportation in a certain area I will look on the thorntree sections online, but most are inherently outdated and of no use. Personally I never wanted to feel as though I was traveling by book so in my opinion I feel it is a much better travel experience meeting people in hostels or on a bus and sharing travel stories learning about a certain area in a region from the a person who was just there than reading the opinions of a place in a book. Just my own personal feeling. Reply to this

I use Lonely Planet to research, learn and get excited about a destination.

I then go to the destination to live it...just a brush maybe...but I discover what I find...with eyes wide open.

It's never quite like any book can describe...never. Reply to this
