Hi there
There 2 famous places worthwhile for visiting that Hang Kenh temple and Du Hang pagoda. Hai Phong is consider a colonial city but not yet touristy as well so it would nice to go for walking around town and by pass opera houes, bar and restaurant there mainly server for local people so should be prepare would be not English menu and bad communicating as well, but it could be good culture exploration holiday before gettting to Cat Ba island or Halong bay Reply to this

haha,I was born in Hai Phong city,so I think I can help you.
The best way to discover Hai Phong, except 3 most famous places there;you can also take a local bus to see the life - real life of surrounding areas.
In the evening, you can rent a bicycle, take a ride along the French quarter there. You'll have the most unforgettable memories there. Reply to this

Kien Bai temple located in Thuy Nguyen district. If you stay near the harbour,so it's quite close to the Binh bridge. You can just pass this bridge, and go about 7kms to the temple.Du Hang temple is in the town;it's on the map (4kms from your hotel,I think).Just buy a map and ask the receptionist to help you to reach that temple. And by the way,if you are interested in temples and pagodas, there's 1 more famous pagoda there, name Pho Chieu pagoda. It's also quite nice to see.
I think in the hotel, they have bicycle for rent, and if not,ask the tour guide to help you.But walking there is a good option.
There's some bars in the French quarter, like Max cafe, some other coffee shops I don't remember the name 😊 but it's easy to find.
And 1 more tip for you: going to the Opera House, and cross the street beside the Opera House (left side I think) and there's 1 of the best coffee shop locating on the road side. You should sitting on the balcony and watching how we live. That's a good thing to do.The French quarter is surround ing the Opera House.
Have a nice trip and if you need anyone to help you, call me at number <snip> 😊 or email me :D

Owh Bui Quang Doanh
Thank you so much for giving more information about Hai Phong, i just been to pass that city a few time, but what i learn from book, yes Hai Phong is also a nice French colonial city, that would be very recommended to take easy cycling around the town, in here i guess it would more slow pace compare to Hanoi and Saigon, sofar Hai Phong is not touristy yet, so if any people love to see less tourist, let try out for one night before getting to Cat Ba island or Halong bay, Actually there is only one company hold home stay and cycling trip from Dong Trieu of Quang Ninh province, it call 5 days cycling package explore northeas vietnam, so first day leave Hanoi, travel to village of Dong Trieu for one night in nice homstay, second day cycling cross river of Kinh Thay, through My Nhan. where is very nice beater nut grow village that belong to Thuy Nguyen, arrival to Hai Phong around Lunch time, check in Hotel then spend the afternoon time to enjoy easy slow pace riding around the Hai Phong, maybe it could great feelling to enjoy coffee where you recommended, see all most highlihgts of HaiPhong, stay in nice Hotel of Huu Nghi, next day morning keep cycling to Cat Ba island through, Cat Hai, overnight in Cat Ba sunrise resort, spend short time relaxing on beach, the fourth day get boat cruise to Halong bay, spend night on cruises owh it great,... day 5 landed in Halong bay city, bus already wait there, get on bus heading straigh back to Hanoi. I would question the idea of cycling around the city as a westerner new to Vietnam. Haiphong can have terrible traffic at times just like the bigger cities.

The street with Maxims cafe and some other western type places on it is Nguyen Thi Minh Khai. Reply to this

Cycling in Hai Phong is very interesting, specially when you get out of the city.Haiphong is not so crowded like Hochiminh city or Hanoi city;and the French quarter there is so peaceful.I said that not because I was born there, but that's my feeling. Reply to this
