So, i'm going to Vietnam (first fly to Singapore and then to Hanoi (?)) in Jan 2007. The plan so far is to travel from up north, Hanoi to down south to Ho Chi Minh City.

What would be the places to go in the middle..
Where is something to see? where can you scuba dive? etc etc..

And what kind of accommodations you can find? do you have to book it before hand or?

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer me 😊

Hi
You can go to Hue- old capital of Vietnam and Hoi An - ancient town in the centre. If you have time should go to hanoi, visit Halong bay, and trekking with a adventure trip in Sapa. For scuba dive, the best in Nha Trang , and you can go Phu Quoc island. You can choose the resort for your staying time.
Have a good trip to vietnam. Reply to this

If you like kite surfing or just chilling in a resort stop in Mui Ne for a few days. Diving in Nha Trang is not bad but at the moment is getting a little iffy due to impending wet season. Not sure about Jan, but I think much better. Hoi An is lovely and a definite. HCMC is interesting but 2 days is enough. Try and fly to Siam Reap in Cambodia as only an hour and half by plane from HCMC and spend 2-3 days seeing Angkor ruins before flying back/on to next destination.

Overall you can book a day in advance or just turn up. The down side with turning up is that you get touted and sometimes can be chaotic and you end up somewhere they want to take you. Consider getting your mobile unlocked and buy a vietnamese sim card as costs much less and you can phone ahead/home much cheaper. It cost us 90000 dong to get it unlocked and 350000 dong for the card (which has 400000 dong credit) this amounts to about 15 quid but you'd spend that in minutes using you UK sim. Local calls are cheap and international cost less than 10000 a minute.

We've only got as far as Hoi An so can't tell you more than that. Follow our blog for more info. cheers M Reply to this

Go to Sapa, an overnight train journey to the north of Hanoi. It's absolutely the best place in Vietnam, in my opinion. The mountain tribes there are still living the same life they have had for hundreds of years. Very friendly and very spectacular.

Also you must stop at Hoi An, south of Hue.

Diving in Nha Trang is pretty good in January. Ask for Fred at Angel Dive - he's probably the best instructor there.

Accommodation is easy. No need to book usually, although you may want to for Hoi An. USD10 will get you a decent dig. Reply to this

You should visit Dalat! its amazing! It's going to Tet holiday here. if you come to Dalat, you'll see flowers every where, especial the weather in Dalat in Jan is the best weather for tourist...Sit at one of nice cafe here, you'll have view to Xuan Huong lake - one of the most beautiful lake in Vietnam, feeling...You can choose Empress Hotel to stay....It's really impressed
Then go to Nha Trang (4 hours-express or 6 hours-tourist bus) and enjoying a real beach city life...
Then Danang, Hoi An, Hue...
In Nha Trang
you should choose Lodge hotel, or Yasaka Hotel ( 4*) or Green Hotel ( 3*) or many many other hotel in Tran Phu Streets. All of them are face to the beach. Room from 100.000 VND - 1000.000 VND. No need to book in advance.
You can hire a Motobike about 50.000-80.000 VND/ day
Food in Nha Trang is delicous with reasonable price. You can go to some islands in Nha Trang bay. More info you can ask Sinh Cafe, TM Brother in Tran Phu street. Diving -> Rainbow Diving Club.
Souvenir -> Dam market
Food in Dam market is so good too....
There are many cafe shops in Nha Trang, free wifi. So don't forget your laptop or handhelds! :D
Photos print: 2000 VND/ photos. There are many labs in Tran Phu Str.
Good luck!
