I will be travelling around thailand for 6 weeks shortly but as you can only be in thailand for 30days without a vise, we thought we'd pop over the border for a day or so to get round it that way.

Do you still need to visa to cross over the border to Laos?

You need a visa to go into Laos, yes. You can get a new, 15 day Thai visa on the border with Laos, but you will also need a Laos visa. Reply to this

If you are from the right country (like UK, most of Europe, US, Canada, Oz, etc.) you can get a free 60 day visa until March. If you can get 60 days (or less) depends on the passport you are traveling under. This way you can remain in Thailand the entire time if you want.

You can also "pop" over the border in Malaysia too if you are in that part of Thailand. If you qualify for the free 30 day "visa exemption" that you get at the airport remember to time your arrival back to Thailand with enough time to bring you up to your departure date.

Merry Christmas.
