Hello, would like any airline recommendations that go from Manila to Bangkok in March or April. Reply to this

My preference is Philippine Airlines (PAL) because I like their arrival and departure times from MNL and BKK. PAL has a slightly better weight allowance for luggage too than some discount airlines. When I arrive during the day hours I have a full night in a hotel and can take advantage of cheaper local transportation.

Cebu Air has flights that can be cheaper, but check their arrival and departure times. Cebu Air has more complaints than PAL. Some travelers love Cebu and others would rather swim than deal with their customer service.

Some discount airlines schedule your departure or arrival through Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (old Clark Airfield, Angeles City/Dau area) and not really close to Manila. Verify where your departure and arrival airports are located especially if you have connecting flights.

Sometimes when I used PAL they would have specials that you have to ask about. Ex. a short round trip flight of 4 days might be more expensive than a round trip flight of 7 or 8 days, etc. Ask what amount of time gives you a better price.

If you are in Manila or elsewhere in the P.I. check with local travel agencies for specific prices and options. Asking questions from a travel agency does not cost anything. Thai Air is another option but they usually are not the cheapest airline. I think Thai Air is pretty reliable.

Visa requirements to Thailand depend on the passport you are traveling under.

Good luck.

Clark is the airport that is often touted as close to Manila - it isn't! Maybe 2 to 3 hours ride from Manila once you get your transportation. I have been on a cheap bus during December that took 4 hours one time. (For bus travel I have only used Rabbit Bus Company and Victory Liner.) Two bus stations in Angeles City area. Dau is closest to the airport.

How much do you want to spend on a hotel room? There are hotels in Angeles City (where the airport is) along Fields Avenue that are in all price ranges. I don't fly out of there, I prefer Manila but there are some discount airlines that do. Watch your weight allowances!!!

If I remember right a taxi might come to around 60 or 70 US dollars to get to Manila. Bus from Dau probably around 200 pesos. Unless things have changed in the last few years there were no toilets on board those buses. Most of the passengers brought their bags into the bus because they did not trust the under bus storage.

Look these links over:

From local hotels in Angeles City the Swagman Hotel runs a "Fly the Bus" option that takes you into Manila to the Ermita area or to the Manila airport. From an Angeles City hotel to downtown Manila I more often used the "Fly the Bus" transportation. They make a stop mid way for a toilet break but they can also get bogged down getting into Manila. You do not have to stay at Swagman Hotel to use this service. They pick up at all hotels on the strip (Fields Ave.)

One popular bar on Fields Avenue is the Margarita Station. They also run a transportation service, see their link:

I like some of the food items on Margarita's menu, they often have drink and food specials.

Philtranco bus company has service from Clark. Google up "how to get from Clark Airport" and you will get many links. In Manila if you take a meter taxi only pay the meter fare.

I don't fly from Clark myself, too much more of a bother to me. But lots of backpackers do use that place and head out to beach areas.

Good luck.
