Hello everyone. We are 3 college students from Denmark and we are doing a project about travelblogs and travelling. We were wondering if travelblogs have any influence on where you travel. We would appreciate if you could answer a few questions about our project.

Please write your gender and age and your location.

Why do you use travelblogs? And how often?
What is your main interest when you use a travelblog?
Do travelblogs have an effect on your travel destination? If yes, how many times did travelblogs have this effect and where did you travel?

Thank you for helping us. :-)

Why do you use travelblogs? And how often?

For a variety of reasons. I update my own travelblog to keep friends/family updated in what we're doing, but also because it helps me remember and relive a lot of our experiences later on. And particularly when I'm writing about places I know well or my own country, I hope it inspires other travelers to see these areas from perhaps an insiders perspective or expand their notions of the U.S. I check in with the forums and blogs almost daily, although I update my own trip blogs maybe once every-other month unless I'm currently 'traveling' in which case I'm not so fixated on editing photos and writing so it's just whenever I get internet access.

What is your main interest when using a travelblog?

I like to get inspired by the travels of others and also like to see how other people experience the world around them. It also serves as a good repository for travel photos and thoughts - if you're not going to share them, why bother taking them?

Do travelblogs have an effect on your travel destination?

Somewhat, but not directly. Often I see photos of a place or read a description and think "Oh I'd love to go there!" but I haven't yet actually gone to any of those places. But perhaps I will be more likely to choose that location over another in the future, but I tend to read travelblogs of places I'm already interested in going so ... it's hard to say which causes the other. But reading others' accounts of places I may have formerly considered 'difficult' makes me more likely to not avoid a place based on perceived level of difficulty/remoteness/etc. Reply to this

Hello Danish Students 😊

I started writing blogs, when I joined TravelBlog. I just joined, to hear what everybody was talking about, have some travel chat, and ask travel questions. Then, I started uploading emails I exchange with my boyfriend while travelling, that I make into blogs. So, to answer your question, I fell into blogging accidentally.

I blog as often as I still have more blog material left from my last trip. Sometimes it is every month, then sometimes there is nothing for 6 or 8 months, while I am doing no travelling.

What is your main interest when you use a travelblog?

Getting travel ideas, for my future trips and entertainment.

Do travelblogs have an effect on your travel destination?

Yes, blogs and what the various bloggers say on the forums have influenced my travels. If a destination is highly recommended by the major travellers, I consider it worth trying. Also, when others go to particular destinations, especially women bloggers, it reassures me that it is at least safe enough to consider. I don't know exactly how much blogs and travel forums have influenced my travels. They certainly had an influence on the following trips.
Iran - Blogs and forum discussions reassured me that is safe enough for me to go there
Kyrgyzstan - Blogs and forums gave me the main advice about how to travel there, and how to avoid problems, to the extent that I felt confident I could choose it as a travel destination
India - His Dudenesss suggestion about visiting Kurukshetra, India influenced my decision to go there, because I could see from his profile that he is well travelled and likes much of the same as I like, where travel is concerned.
Syria - My decision to go there in the comming spring was influenced by the recommendation of The Travel Camel, and I can see from his blogs, that his advice is well worth taking.
Sumatra - I was influenced by the speakers on Do you want to travel in Sumatra? to choose Sumatra as my next August and September trip, because from their blogs, I can see that these travellers know what they are talking about.
