I need to weigh up the options, so any stories personal to you or if you know of any, please tell me them!
My boyfriend and I are planning a RTW trip in 2012. By then, my boyfriend will have spent 5 months in prison 12 years ago for actual bodily harm. Thing is, as selfish as this may sound, I have been planning this long before he was even considering anything like this, but now we are both up for it, and if he doesn't get into Oz, I will be very very very annoyed if I don't get to go because he can't get in. Therefore, I was thinking maybe if he can't get in, he could carry on to New Zealand and spend a bit of time there by himself? It's not so strict there is it?
Basically, I want help from you guys in that I want to get as many true stories as possible so I can get a better idea of whether or not he can get into Oz.
Thanks so much in advance 😊
Reply to this Hi Danielle,
This is the most recent relevant info I could find doing a quick search on the
immigration.govt.nz site. It's more than 2 years old though, so might pay to use their
Contact Us links and ask them specifically.
One thing I do know is that dishonesty doesn't go down well with them, so be upfront about the details - and good luck :-)
Reply to this My folks were held up at Perth airport for ages as someone on the same flight with the same name (we have a super common surname) had a criminal conviction and they pulled my dad until they determined who it was.
I have no first hand experience of anything like this but have watched a fair few of those 'Nothing to Declare' programs to know that if you don't declare something like this Oz will send you straight home.
From what I can gather, if you declare it at the time of applying for your visa and still get it you should be fine. If you don't and they find out ( not sure if it asks specifically on the immigration card) you won't get in. I'd check with the embassy for a definate answer.

Reply to this Thank you! He is going to declare it and he does give a good impression when you meet him so he should be fine... x
Reply to this Definitely declare a criminal conviction especially for something that he served a sentence for - at 12 years ago as long as he does give that good impression he should be fine. If he doesnt declare it he will get booted out.
