Rome, Florence, Venice and who knows - upcoming trip. Help wanted.

Will be traveling to Rome, Florence, Venice for 12 nights this coming September with the woman I love. Would like all the suggestions, tips, do's & don'ts,where to stay, what to see, what to eat etc. Also would like info about purchasing a Rail Pass online stateside, pros & cons. Traveling alone, no set itinerary at this time but arriving in Rome in the AM on Wed 15th; plan to see city and then depart via rail to Florence on Monday Sept 20th then to Venice next day and return to Rome on Friday the 24th. If some one has a better alternative I'm hoping to hear from you. Please share your experiences, direct me to online resources etc. Since I plan on spending most of my time enjoying the sites I don't need luxury or resort style hotels/accommodations. Looking for reasonably price accommodations; would prefer to spend my money on other things. What section of city to stay in Rome? Looking for old city, quaint accomodations. When in Rome would like to stay in old part of city. Reply to this

Rome , Florence and Venice at 4 nights each. You can weave sidetrips from these major sites according to your whim. From Rome, you may do day trips to Positano, Sorrento, Pompeii, Naples. From Florence, try San Gimignano and Sienna. From Venice, visit Padova and Verona and the short ferry rides to Burano, Murano, Torcello, etc.

Just visit hostelbookers.com and loads of budget accommodation will come up. Why only one day in Florence? Reply to this

Want to thank each of you for taking time to respond to request for help. Based on post I will most likely extend my stay in Florence & Venice and probably take a couple of day side trips. Have booked a B&B in Trastevere section of Rome upon arrival. Will need to locate places to stay in Florence & Venice and Rome when I return for flight home. Still will like info about purchasing Rail Pass here in States before departing. If I read correctly I will still need to purchase tickets for actual travel to cities. Is there really a cost savings? What are chances of catching train by just showing up at Rail Station day want to travel. I really don't like to be locked into a definite schedule where I have to be certain places at certain times. Whatever suggestions, input other travelers can provide will be greatly appreciated Reply to this

I believe you have heard of Amsterdam and it is definitely a city you should visit if you are planning for a vacation. While Amsterdam is not a large city, getting acquainted with it before you make a trip to Amsterdam is worth while, such as the culture, transportation system, hotels etc.. Getting information on the best way to travel there and how to move around the city will prepared you well for the trip. You must go there as well..
