13 years ago, June 16th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #113311
Im planning on staying in Singapore for a week to 10 days in October. Im wondering if anyone knows the best way to travel to Malaysia from Singapore for day or overnight trips. Ferry, bus, ect? Any favorite destination or must see on a short hop into Malaysia? Thanks! Reply to this

Hi

There are buses from Singapore to Malaysia, you can easily get a bus to Malaka and Kuala Lumpur.

Besides buses and planes you can take a train from Singapore to Bangkok Thailand if you want.

I did the reverse, Bangkok to Singapore less than 2 years ago. Trains are pretty good, they are more comfortable than some bus rides but they are a little slower and can be more expensive. If you are going a long distance you can sometimes get a sleeper. A sleeper car saves you the cost of paying for another night in a hotel.

If money is tight keep in mind that Singapore is more expensive than Malaysia. The train goes from Singapore to KL to Butterworth and on to Hat Yai with smaller stops in between. Penang is close to Butterworth and some backpackers and thrift travelers prefer that city over KL because it is a little cheaper.

Trains can be cold so have a light jacket. Malaysian trains have a dining car on some long distance routes with cheap chicken and rice meals plus drinks. Bring a couple books to read if you go by train. If you go to KL check out the Petronas Towers. If you like caves check out the Batu Caves. Google check will give you more suggestions. KL is slightly cheaper than Singapore.

Good luck.

Besides traveling by bus, you can take regular ferry services that operate between Singapore, the Malaysian resort island of Tioman and Tanjong Belungkor in the Eastern corner of Johor.

you could take the regular train services that ply between Singapore and key cities and towns on the western seaboard of Peninsular Malaysia. Reply to this

If you do the bus be sure to get the executive VIP if you want to be comfortable and the difference is cost is not that much you can actually sleep on them. Reply to this
