I love this new (is it?) awards section and have been browsing happily but I noticed that Sophie and Dale are not included in the hall of fame pictures. They received this award as documented in that thread but are not showing up there, nor on their home page. I love these guys and am gonna fight for their recognition!!!!

Hi Scott,

Yes, it is new.

The 'Hall of Fame' awards are processed manually - we'll catch up soon 😊 Reply to this

We only started giving out the awards a few days ago. There are a number of types. Which list of winners are you interested in seeing. 'Hall of Fame', 'Blogger of the Week', 'Photograph'y, 'Commentators'...? I will post it here?

The 'Hall of Fame' and 'Blogger of the Week' are based on being chosen by nomination of the members and then by selection from moderators. The other awards are based on numbers of photos, blogs, comments made, forum posts made...

You are already too famous to be the 'Blogger of the Week'. We pick somebody who is relatively unknown and then promote them, to make them more known.

You already have the qualifications to be a Front Page blogger, which is even better than being the 'Blogger of the Week'. If you put at least 400 words in a blog and at least one photo, the blog will go on the Front Page.

If you want, you could nominate somebody else, or add your nomination to any on the list to help us choose.
The list: Nominate a Blogger to be next weeks Unknown Blogger of the Week.

You could also nominate bloggers for the Hall of Fame if you want. You also dont qualify for that, until you are here for at least 2 years, and have at least 30 blogs.
Hall of Fame Nominations

Nominating, posting on the forums, commenting on blogs, recommending others... is a good thing, because it increases your visibility and those who are visible generally are the ones who gain the most recommends, blog viewings... Also, there are awards for posting on the forums, commenting on blogs and photos..., with 3 levels on each. So, if you like collecting...

Mell ... you are always a wealth of information!

Just out of curosity (sp) what are the qualifications to be a Front Page blogger? Because I just started showing up there when I added my blog updates. Reply to this

1. Blogger status
2. At the moment, you have to have at least 3 recommends from others with blogger status. It is going to be raised to 4 soon.

You are popular, because it sometimes takes a blogger years to get 3 recommends. Reply to this

Thanks for all the info Mell .... I have never really considered myself as being that popular. Reply to this

Me neither. I was very surprised when I first saw one of my blogs on the Front Page, because at the time I didnt know how it works.

Now, I have 23 recommends. I think, it is down to people sensing that I love travel and then liking my blogs because of it. I dont really consider myself to be a talented writer, like some of the other members of TravelBlog are.

Regarding the types of awards - we've built a fairly flexible system - we wanted to reward people for contributing to travelblog - and specifically show the winners of Blogger of the Week in one place.

So far we have the following awards (automatically given), some have levels;

Photography - easy one - uploading 100 photos gets you level 1.
Blogger - 100 blog entries...
Forum Poster - Mel is the only one with level 3.
Commenter - everyone loves to get comments - post on other peoples blogs and get an award

Then we have two special awards already mentioned - Blogger of the Week and Hall of Fame

We have some more awards planned - and if someone posts 100,000 times in the forum - we can make some new levels.

The awards will be updated once a week.

That's nice, because I dont get to travel enough these days to get the high level blog and photo awards. Maybe I will one day reach 100,000 forum posts instead. 😊

And, what about creating a moderator award too? 😊 The ex moderators who have helped out with moderating the forums and updating the locations database could have one too, in recognition of their contribution?

Has anyone considered giving a "Hits" or "Views" award for members who attract a lot of readers? Reply to this
