I am travelling on my own and want to take a bike through cambodia as i have heard it is some of the best bike riding there is. Has anyone heard or know anything about this, or interested in doing this?
Reply to this Hey lucy,
We've just come thru Cambodia and done a bit of riding along the way - albeit on some 125CC clutchless manual local bikes. These are generally for hire anywhere throughout the country, except Siem Riep. I'd suggest that if you were going to do an extensive journey that you may want a dirt bike (250) which you can also hire in some places.
The roads get really dodgy in places - esp. in the NorthWestern, NorthEastern corners and the Eastern border near Vietnam and the HCM trail. It was also not uncommon to be flying along a seemingly reasonable road and then have a substantial crater appear before you (so get a helmet and some good suspension). Many places don't seem to hire helmets - but if you're insistent you can usually find somewhere with one...
I assume you are an accomplished rider and will enjoy the many pockets of cambodia that the buses seem to overlook!
Good Luck and Take Care.
Andrew
