I have plans for a trip to SE Asia.I know I can obtain a visa upon entry to most countrys on arrival.Has anyone had any experience with a visa to Myanmar?I understand they want advance notice and a letter from a travel agent. Is this true?

You will not need a letter from a travel agent, but you will need to apply in a Myanmar embassy for your visa first. In Bangkok it took us 4 days. A one month visa cost around 25-30usd

Hope this help,

I'm also heading to Myanmar in a few months and had the same question, it looks like you can apply online:

and then pay the 20 US dollar fee on arrival. At least I hope it's as easy as they say on the website, I would prefer not to stay in Bangkok for 4 days right now. Reply to this

By the way Stanley, you know you have to get the Vietnamese visa this way too, or buy it in advance from an embassy outside Vietnam. Reply to this

I have it from a reliable source my agent, that you can now get a visa upon entry to Myanmar. But I think you still have to have some type of letter of intent so to speak.I will look into it and let you know the details. All the others Vietnam Cambodia ,Laos and Thailand you can purchase a visa when you arrive. But now Thailand may be a different story, will see how that unfolds. As far as visa's Myanmar was my main concern,Thanks for the input.I don't know where you guys are off to next but if I can be of any help with Nepal or India just ask. I found a site from ICS Travel Group go to www.indochina-services.com May 5th,this should get you to New Myanmar Visa on Arrival. This comes from the Ministry of Home Affairs of Myanmar.I think this will answer all our questions. They ask $30.00 US for a tourist visa good for 28 days. There are more details check it out. Hi All
I think the info above for Vietnam isn't correct. I was there in April and you had to get a Visa in advance. I got mine in Phnom Penh but available most places. You have to tell them what day you are arriving and it's not cheap but seeing as Vietnam is fabulous don't let the price put you off.
Laos is a visa on arrival, Thailand you can get a Visa waiver but you have to leave and come back if you stay more than the month. Reply to this

Hey

You're right. It's not correct. You need to arrange a visa in advance from Vietnam. Either one from an embassy or a letter for a visa on arrival organised by a travel agent.

Hi All

As for Vietnamese visa, you can apply for it at Vietnamese embassy located in any countries. It's $30.00 for US resident visit Vietnam for 30 days.

As for Myanmar visa, I booked ticket on AirAsia for Yangon for 10 days and on its website said that

"Effective 1st May 2009, guests travelling to Myanmar can apply for a visa upon arrival to the country by filling up a form which will be available from all airlines flying to Myanmar. Applicants can also for their visa online prior to their arrival".

The link is:

So I don't worry much about visa. Just want to share with you Reply to this

Hi All,
The latest news in the region (I'm living in Bangkok) is that the new Visa on Arrival program has recently been suspended in advance of the November elections. Best be prepared before you arrive and get your visa at the Burmese embassy.
