Hello,

I will be visiting India for approximately 15 nights in November and would like to like to limit the amount of 'train journeys' as possible. I am happy to Fly/ Hire a car and driver instead but if anyone can recommend any way i can get through the cities below limiting train journeys that would be fantastic:

and i should mention i will be flying in from Kathmandu, Nepal:

Jaisalmer
Jodhpur
Udaipur
Jaipur
Agra
Varanassi

I dont mind transiting through Delhi if need be, but would prefer to allocate my time in the cities listed instead.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! Reply to this

Hi Chanel, since you'd be traveling from Nepal, you could visit Varanasi first. From Varanasi to Agra then Jaipur - Jodhpur - Jaisalmar and then Udaipur last.

Since you are booking for your travel much in advance, you could get good deals on low cost airlines, you can try sites like makemytrip.com / yatra.com or easemytrip.com.

Travel from Nepal to Varanasi would be the longest distance wise. You can take the overnite train from Varanasi to Agra or fly to Agra via Delhi (there is no direct flight).

Agra to Jaipur is 4-5 hours by train or bus and similarly Jodhpur and Jaisalmar are a few hours drive. Udiapur is quite a distance and you could fly to Udiapur to save on time.

Here is a blog that might help too - http://www.fodors.com/community/asia/varanasi-to-agra-the-easiest-way.cfm

Hi Tanya thanks for that.

Yes im stuggling to formulate my plan i think either way i will need to do a few nights on an overnight train and there is no easy way of travelling this way. But in any event in sure it will work out.

You wouldnt happen to have any ideas on the best place to do a hot air balloon ride? im not sure if it would be worth it or not in Ranthambore NP, Udaipur or out in the desert?

Thanks so much. Reply to this

Hi Chanel,

Since you are traveling in November, the weather in Rajasthan will be cool and you can try taking a ride in a hot air balloon. I've personally never done this is India and I'm not sure how the experience would be.

However, you can look up the website - http://www.hotairballooninginindia.com/ - its been approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation.

They have ballooning in Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Ranthambhore. Reply to this

Train travel in India is actually pretty cool, I really enjoyed it, you get to meet local Indians and have a nice chat with them, it's cheap, you get to see India passing by your window...and you get to save on accommodation costs. Reply to this
