Staying in Thailand under 30 days and visa question!!

Hi,

We're going to SE Asia on May 2nd and we're stuck on how to prove that we're only going to be in Thailand for under 30 days. We're flying from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok on May 12th, and then our plan is to be in Thailand for only a week/max week and a half before going to Cambodia via Poipet border then Vietnam and China. We found out you don't need a visa for 30 days, but you need to prove that you're not going to stay longer by evidence of an internal flight? Our next plane is going to be in Shanghai at the beginning of August so we don't have this and we're travelling overland from Bangkok to Shanghai.

Is there another way of proving that we're not staying more than 30 days?

We only have 3 weeks before we go to get a thai visa beforehand and I don't think we have enough time if we have to arrange it now? If we do need to get a visa now how long does it take and what's the process?

Many Thanks! Reply to this

Where are you? You can go to a Thai consul in many UK cities (Birmingham, Hull....) and pick up a visa the same day. You need a completed application form, passport photo and your passport.

One way you might be able to prove onward travel is if you have your visas for the other countries with the dates of proposed entry on them. That might work.

You can also ask for a transit visa from any Thai embassy abroad.

Vietnam you have to have a visa before you get to the border unles they changed it recently.

Buy a fully refundable airline ticket.

My bet is that Thai immigration will not ask for the follow on ticket but the Airline in KL might! right now they are kinda of short on tourists Reply to this

Thanks for the posts.

We are in devon, a fair distance from any consul i'm afraid! What we think we're doing is getting a budget ticket from bangkok onwards (probably to phnom penh) due for a few weeks after arrival in thailand.

This will be enough for our airline in KL and any issues with immigration too. Then we'll continue on our original planned route of crossing the border at Poipet. We'd be buying an empty seat on a plane but believe it or not it works out as cheaper for us than the trip to a consul/embassy or a visa! I guess then too we'll have a ticket to use if we find thailand too irresistible to stay in just a week and a half.

Our China Visa is currently being sorted and if i'm right it's simple to pick up a vietnam visa in either phnom penh or sihanoukville?

So... visa waiver of 30 days with an onward ticket booked, visa on border at poipet, visa sorted in cambodia before going into Vietnam. Anything we're missing? sorry to sound so green! Reply to this

Yep, it's very easy to pick up the Vietnamese visa in Phnom Penh. They can do it the same day sometimes.

Erm....anything else? What else do you think you have forgotten??? Reply to this
