Hello Andrew 😊

I would like to go to Uzbekistan, but I heard they are not used to women travelling alone there, so I am a bit wary of doing it. What is your advice about this? I dont like tours, so dont suggest that please.

Your could check out the blogs about Uzbekistan written by members of TravelBlog if you want.

...please explain what do you think about Central Asia , and what you know !

I went to Kyrgyzstan, because it is both the least difficult for women travellers and the easiest to get the tourist visa for.

Hi Mell ,
Never heard about that .... Every year we have so many travellers ))))
Very interesting, I would like to tell you about the statistic , most of them are women. )))
As I am travelling all the time , I personally met many women who are travelling alone with the guide book in Central Asia. MOst of them are Japanese, French , Germans and Spanish . This is accordin to statistics.
So no need to worry abou it ! I also, would highly reccommend when you are travelling in Uzbekistan , use B&B Hotels or homestay , as it is very interesting , I call it orientation with local people ! )) ) Furthemore, now yuou have friend in Uzbekistan so go ahead ! And do not be worry !!! )))) Need something in Uzbekistan just let me know, I am not suggeting tours to you , as you are the categorry of people , who would like to have more free time for yourself, rather then to go appropriate program and be everything in time ! , absolutely like me , I also like to travel alone!! ))))

Uzbekistan is much like the rest of Central Asia not a country that many here (Norway, I assume its similar for most of Europe too) would even consider going to for vacation. I had myself never given it a thought before I came across a blog about some people going by train from Europe to Hong Kong and chose the route through Central Asia instead of the transmongolian.

I did some research then because it sounded like an interesting journey, but I found it hard to find much info about the region at all. This will probably be an obstacle for many people when deciding where to go. Another possible obstacle is that it may be more difficult and more expensive to get there then other touristy/backpacker destinations.

Backpacking in Central Asia sounds really interesting though and a very different experience from the (I would think) way more touristy Thailand/SE-Asia. Could you give some info on this? Like what kind of budget you would need, availability of cheap accommodation, possible visa issues, how easy is it to get around, possible dangers and some dos and don'ts. More info about the country is the best way to get more people interested in going I think. When you know nothing about a country there is a slim chance you even consider going there. Reply to this

Hello Andrew,

I am a new visitor on this form. I am Anna from Tbilisi/Georgia. I really would like to visit Tashkent-Samarkand-Bukhara. And I plan to traevl alone. I have questions and will be very thankful if you can help me with them -

- I plan to take a train Tashkent-Samarkand. Will you recommend it or better take a cab? Will it be safe?
- Is it safe in streets in Tashkent? How do licals react on a woman walking alone in the streets? Is it safe?
- How is night life in Tashkent?
- I do not need visa to get to Uzbekistan. I plan to come for 4 days only. DO I still need to register in some local authorities/police?

I am fluent in Russian, so I wont have language barrier in your country, I guess.

This is my first visit to Uzbekistan, and I would like to learn some details before visiting.

THanks in advance
Anna

Hi Anna,
Thanks for the interest to our country.,
Going step by step to your questions.
1) Tashkent - Samarkand train (special train called Registan) very comfortable and pretty good. If you would like to take cab, it is little bit more expensive then train ticket.
I suggest train, it is more comfortable!!
From Samarkand to Bukhara there is another special train called Sharq .
So it depends what you would like to see. You can also use train
Do from Tashkent to Samarkand I recommend train!!
2) It will be very safe everywhere in Uzbekistan, and as i have explained you can easily come alone and will see the same alone travelers (women or men) traveling in Uzbekistan !
3) Night life in Tashkent also very interesting, depends where and how you would like to go (disco, clubs, pubs, restaurants, parks etc)
4) You do not need a visa to Uzbekistan, bit you need to make a registration in local authorities, if you stay in hotel, the hotel will make you registration. Very easy!!

So we are fluent in Russian as well, as we used to be one country, so we can make a correspondence in Russian if you would like. )))

Welcome to Uzbekistan,

Kindest regards ,
Andrew

Well in addition to Vinovat Sudarynya,
As you may understand that all of five Central Asian countries can easily comunicate in Russian,
So I would say the order is:
Kazakhstan - Kyrgyzstan- Uzbekistan-Tajikistan- Turkmenistan

Concerning train system in our country, of course many things need to be developed, but it is really raised after the collapse of the Soviet Union. We use speacial trains with new LOKO's , carts etc. The trains which I have mentioned for Anna like REGISTAN (Samarkand-Tashkent) or SHARQ (Tashkent-Samarkand-Bukhara) are especially made for travelers, as these cities are the center of the Great Silk Road.

Also, just for your information, Almost 80 percent of All World Heritage Historical monuments are located in Uzbekistan, other 20 in Kazakhstan, Turkemnistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan ! )))

So it is going to be very interesting ! ))))

Andrew!

Thank you so much for your help!. I am writing in English, so that others on the forum, who do not speak russian, can understand..saving double job for tou 😊

Your answers were really helpful. I guess I can get the tickets on the trains from Tashkent when I get there, no need to book them online?

Also, i will be staying in Uzbekistan only for 5 days, do i still need police registrtion card? And do I need any other docuemnts besides passport to be with me for police registration?

How about the weathe in end of march in your country?

Спасибо,
Пока

Does anyone know what is the best way to get a tourist visa for Uzbekistan? Is there any way to actually avoid the corruption and bribe demands? Reply to this
