Traveling in China without Outgoing Flight Booked - Need Advice Please

I will be traveling to China in March, but I do not have a return flight booked as I will be traveling around until my money runs out, at which point I will book a flight and fly home.

Hi,

I will be traveling to China soon, I am going to Japan first and will then be catching a Ferry to Shanghai. I have applied for a visa and will be receiving that soon.

However I do not have a return flight booked as I will be traveling around until my money runs out, at which point I will book a flight and fly home.

Someone told me that the Chinese authorities can sometimes not like it if a traveler does not have evidence that they intend to leave the country.

Has anyone else been in this situation, or does anyone have any advice?

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

I realise this isn't quite the same as your situation, but I travelled overland into China twice in 2007, from Vietnam and Macau, and wasn't asked for proof of an onward ticket. Reply to this

I would say that if you get into China whith out proof then you are fine. If you have already gotten your visa you should be fine. Even if you havent, I just got mine and I didnt have to show proof of departure. I would say they see this regularly because of all of the people who tour all of SE Asia. Hope that eases your mind. You should be fine. I've booked one-way tickets to China twice within the last year on a US passport and have had no problems at all.

One thing- if you are from the US, some US travel agencies will not take your credit card from China without "international fees", so you'll end up paying a few % more than if you had booked in America.

Best wishes for a safe and fun trip! Reply to this

It CAN prevent you from getting an L-Visa. Chances are though they won't care as i've done it twice and no one cared. Mind you I also came here with Work Permits and Invitation letters which helped since they knew I was just going to upgrade my visa to a Z anyway. If it becomes a problem book a short flight to Thailand or a neighboring country which is real cheap and after you get the visa cancel the ticket. Reply to this
