Trying to guage situation in Darjeeling from people who are out there now!
17 years ago, August 2nd 2006 No: 1 Msg: #6845
Hello. Am travelling to India in about three weeks (end of August 06). Because I'm going to be travelling mainly in Sikkim, ie at high altitude, the travel clinic I visited suggested that malaria med wasn't absolutely necessary. However, I'm going to be travelling via Darjeeling, and am hearing conflicted reports- some people I've spoken to have said that medication isn't necessary in Darjeeling, because it's so high up, but I've been reading on various websites about a recent outbreak of deadly lurgy.

What I'm looking for is advice from people who might be in that part of India right now- are you taking anything, is there a situation that you are aware of? Am going cross eyed through reading various websites, so please don't suggest any- I'm really just looking for info from people in the front line!!
