Suggestion on places to go in one week in the islands in South West Thailand

Hey Guys

I am heading off on a trip to South East Asia for 6 weeks in a weeks time, I'm going solo so am getting quite nervous!! I am going to stay on Bangkok for 3 nights and then think i will fly to Krabi and spend a week down that region, definitely want to go to Koh Phi Phi but is there anywhere else that u think I should go? I hear that Ko Lanta is very nice? I'd like to go to places where I have a good chance of meeting people so any suggestions would be much appreciated. After my week down the islands i am going to fly to Chiang Mai and then go to Laos, Vietnam, and Siem Reap in Cambodia. I know time will be tight so I may take a few flights. Does this sound okay to u experts? Let me know your thoughts!

Sounds okay to me. Too often tourists show up in Thailand and only visit beaches. At least you are including Bangkok and Chiang Mai in your holiday. You have a busy schedule to keep. Get your visas for the communist countries sorted out. Don't leave Laos, Vietnam or Cambodia with their currency, no one wants it after you leave there! U.S. dollars are often used in VN, Laos and Cambodia.

Good luck. Reply to this

I know you are short of time but when you you visit Chaing Mai I would recommend the Elephant conservation park - it was awesome, they look after abused elephants. You need to book though so it would be worth checking out their website.

I would also recommend heading out to Pai from Chaing Mai - awesome little place with bamboo huts, quite hippy like.

Ah the memories, I was in Thailand in 2008 for 5 weeks and I miss it loads. Reply to this

Hi Sir Halberd,

Thanks for your tips, good to know about leaving the currencies behind me in the various countries. much appreciated.

Jo Jo,

Wow that elephant conservation park sounds amazing. I'd definitely be up for that but i think i'll only have time for a day trip or an over night visit. I looked it up online and there seems to be a few in Chiang Mai. Which one did you go to? I found this site http://www.elephantnaturepark.org/ was it that one by any chance? How long were u at the park for?

Glad u liked Thailand so much, it's got me all excited about going! Reply to this

Minimaire,

That is a lot of travelling while in Thailand, going in and out of the country, have you got the correct long term visa? Or are you going to keep doing Visa Runs?

It is important to get the correct visa so you dont have any problems.

Yes Minimaire that was the park, I did a day visit, you feed the elephants and help to bath them and you get to here all their stories as to how they ended up there. All very sad. I would recommend it though. Good luck with your travels.

Thanks for the tips everyone : )

PAI!! if you go to chiang mai you must have a pieace of the pie. I know its a lame joke but whatever. Pai is a really nice town about three or four hours from chiang mai. good spot to see alot of northern thai culture. Just dont be a bad tourist and sign up for one of those "lets go look at the hill tribe people like its a zoo" kinda tours, not kool. Dont know if you will have the time, but i think it is worth while to try to see some of the real culture and the areas surrounding pai perfect for that(maybe not the bars in the town, which do have a really interesting music scene going on). The town it self is a bit touristy but depending on the season it can be a great place and the locals are mostly people from the hill tribes near by.

cheers! have fun! Reply to this

Efratha - my recommendations exactly. Pai is awesome. I stayed in the cheapest most cool bamboo hut there across a rickety bridge. Wicked place. Reply to this

You can get expedited visas for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in 2 days while you are in Bangkok, but you will have to pay a premium for a tour agent to get them for you to save running around yourself. Make sure you shop around for the best price on this.

This time of year accom should not be a problem but if you really need the security or are arriving late at night somewhere, then just book for 1 night. What you see online or in the travel agents in Bangkok isn't necessarily what you will get if you pay in advance. Reply to this
