Advice please! (Visas, travelling in Asia, prices)

Hello there!
My wife and I will be travelling to India either in December or in February 2010.

First of all Id like to know whether we will need visas (Im english, my wife is Brazilian) And if so, where i can get one (please dont say london!)

Will we need visas for other countries near India? Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia etc. (I know Bhutan just isnt an option!) if so, will it just be a case of them stamping our passports on arrival?

Also, can someone advise me about any good websites offering cheap flights FROM india?

Lastly, what kind of prices are we looking at for things like hotels in India??? And how about in Thailand? (most likely will be going there too)

CHEERS EVERYBODY!!!! :D

Hi Adam,

You and your wife certainly need a visa to travel to India and the other countries. Thailand is the only place that offer Visa on arrival for tourists. However, I would suggest getting all your visa's in place before your start traveling. Eliminates uncertainly and queueing up in long lines.

You would need to figure out the closest Indian Embassy/Consulate from where you stay and apply. Assuming you have a British passport, it would take 1-2 working days to get your Tourist Visa.

Similarly you'd have to apply at each countries Embassy/Consulate for the Visa. Many of these applications can be done online and you simply can google it up and the websites, forms etc are available there.

Hope this helps planning your trip. Reply to this

Hi!

Was wondering if anyone could give some advice.

I am in 2 minds to travel to Delhi and Rajasthan in June. I know June it is the start of the monsoon season. I am a bit confused as I have read blogs of people who have been to Rajasthan in June and they say it is very hot but do not mention the monsoon at all...What is like Rajasthan is June?

How about Delhi? What is it like in June? Obviously I do not want to get there and be stuck because of torrential rain...I don't know what monsoon is and do not want to underestimate things...

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Sabine

Hi, if you can change your travel dates then visiting India post monsoon - anytime after August, is advisable. Rajasthan falls in the desert region and rainfall is extremely unpredictable here. It can be hot and dry for days and suddenly have a day or two or heavy rainfall.

Delhi, the monsoon officially starts later in July though its difficult to predict the weather.

In June, India is hot, humid and you'd be more prone to illness too (influenza / stomach related) are common.

Do plan your trip accordingly! Reply to this

Hi Adam,

The rates in India for a tour package (including hotel) typically vary from 100 USD to 500 USD per night per person - This includes the hotel, sightseeing, travel by road, guides, breakfast etc etc. Let me know if you need itineraries of some good packages
