Visa for Vietnam

Obtaining a Vietnam Visa in Thailand
14 years ago, October 29th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #91348
Does anyone have any recent experience of obtaining a Vietnam Visa whilst in Thailand?
Is it easy to do? Does it take long?
I'll be in Bangkok for a few days, then heading South to the Islands (East and West) for a couple of weeks before returning to Bangkok to fly to Hanoi.
I've read that it's possible to do in Phuket as well as Bangkok. Is there any difference in time/cost?
Thanks for any help. Reply to this

Check out their visa on arrival rules, you might not need to get one at all. Reply to this

Hi,

If you are going to Vietnam and concern about the visa, I suggest you to make visa on arrival online. It is very easy and convenient now. You just copy your passport and scan it and then send it to the professional visa online operator. you could pay 20$ for doing online if you have from 3 person up, if only you , it costs 25$. You may wait 2 days to receive the letter of arrival approval. Then arrive in Hano ior Sai Gon airport, show it to custom officers and pay 25$ for stamp fee.
Here the link for you to refer:

Hope this help

We got Vietnamese visas in Bangkok just last year.

It takes different amounts of time depending on how much you pay! You can have it done overnight if you need to be quick.

We have done it two different ways.

1. The first time we went to the Vietnamese Embassy. We trekked across town via Sky train and boat, dropped off our passports, then went back 3 days later to pick them up.

Easy enough, but turned out that it was more expensive to do it this way than to get a travel agent to do it!

2. Second time we used a travel agent in Banglampoo (where Khoa San Road is). We dropped them with her and picked them up two days later. Again, easy.

Remember that the Embassy is not open on the weekend, so add additional time on if you are planning to do it over the weekend.

I've never done a visa on arrival so I can't comment on that. I do know someone who did it recently and it turned out that the letter was, perhaps, not official.

I'm sure some companies are ok though.

Hi, does anybody know about getting a vietnamese visa in kuala lumpur? as far as I understand, a visa on arrival is only for when travelling by plane. We are planning to enter Vietnam by Bus from Laos.

Thanks for any help

You can go to the embassy in KL. It takes about 3 days. Go there, fill in the form, hand in some photos and then go back a couple of days later to pick it up. It's only open on weekdays.

You could get a travel agent to do it for you in KL too. We didn't look into that so I don't know if it makes any difference.

It is easy for you to take Vietnam visa at embassy in BKK or KL. Just need to care about the date you apply it if it is at weekend or on Vietnamese holidays. Of course, if you travel by air, Visa on arrival (14$ only) is the easiest way. No problem happened to my friends who did both at embassy or arrival. Good luck to you. Reply to this

Thanks for your recommendations. We'll go to the embassy next week and do the visa there. As far as I know, for Laos and Cambodia the Visa can be issued at the border. Do you know any about this?

Hi,
If you would like to apply via to Vietnam, you can choose one of the following options:
1. Apply visa on arrival: you must need help of a travel agent. All you need is to send your all personal information as in your passport. You will receive an approval letter in few days. Print the letter, take it with you and 2 photos to board the flight. You get the visa stamp on arrival at an international airport. You have to pay US$25/person here.
2. apply visa @ the Embassy. You can either go there and manage yourself to get it Or ask agent to help. If you do with help of Agent, you receive an letter approval code. Print that letter, take it with you to the Embassy and get your visa done!
Good luck!

Hello,
In my opinion getting a visa through the nearest Vietnam embassy – in the U.S., Vietnam has its embassy in Washington DC and a consulate in San Francisco, and you can arrange to get your visa by post if you’re too far from either.
Here’s another solution preferred by many veteran travelers as http://www.luckyvietnamvisa.com/ They do offer the lowest processing fee ($19.99USD) for the standard 30 day single entry tourist visa, that I've found, plus the $25USD "stamping fee" paid at the airport on arrival in Vietnam. There are other agencies that have competitive rates for other types of pre-approved Vietnam visas.
Hope this help! Reply to this
