questions about Indonesia in just 6 days- Bali/Medan/Yogyakarta

I am confused about how big Bali is. If I stay in central Bali for 2-3 days will I be able to do everything easily in day trips, like the Gunung Batur volcano, Gunung Agung volcano, etc? What are the best things to do and how easy is it to get around by public transport? I only have 6 days in Indonesia, so will 2 days in Bali cut it or should I stay for 3?

Also with 6 days in Indonesia I was thinking my other stops besides Bali would be 1-2 days in Medan to go to the orangatangs and 1-2 days in Yogyakarta. Will one day each cut it in Medan (to see orangatangs) and Yogyakarta (to shop and go to Gunung Merapi)? Or should I stay for 2 days in either/both of these places? Are there other things I should see in these places?

Jakarta is fine to skip, right? Anything else major in Indonesia I should try to see?

THANKs in advance for the advice... Reply to this

Sorry but 6 days in Indonesia isn't nearly enough. I went last summer to Bali, Komodo Island/Flores, Yogyakarta, and Borneo, and it was amazing.

In 6 days you should plan no more than 2 trips. My favorite parts of the trip were diving off Komodo and seeing the dragons, and trekking in the Borneo jungles and spotting wild orangutans. The jungle treks are pretty rough though, as it is muddy and there are leeches (its ok, just tuck your pants into your socks).

Yogyakarata was intersting also, but is a city. I haven't been to Medan, but I imaging it will take a while to get out into the jungle, so I am not sure if you can do this or not. They have quick flights to Flores/Komodo from Bali, so it would be very easy to do these two trips in 6 days. 2 nights in Bali is plenty, but you should definitely visit Ubud as a day trip if you can. Just got back from Indonesia. My advice is for you to start in yogyakarta and not miss sunrise in Borobudur and sunset in Prambanan, which 2 sites you can do in one day if you have the energy. From yogya you can head for Bali with a stopover at Mt Bromo. I didn't do this, but I'm told it is easy to do as it makes for a good sunrise stopover between Bali and Yogya.

In Bali, it would be the sun and sand+temples+rice terraces+art shops. If you want to throw in another volcano, it is completely up to you. And up to your energy. PM me if you want to get in touch with my tour guide in Yogya and Bali. Btw, you can do this in reverse...........Bali through Mt Bromo to Yogya. Check out my blogs.

Hi,

Just got back from Indonesia as well. 6 days in Indonesia is not really enought. However, you should have a look at www.evaneos.co.uk where they have short sample itineraries, that you can combine or not.
It is quite helpful. Reply to this
