Do I give out my credit card details??

Hi,

I have been asked to send my credit card details to secure some accommodation in Mumbai and I am not too keen to do so.
Is this the norm or do I avoid this at all costs? Surely all I would need to do is pay the deposit etc to secure accommodation without sending them my details.

Your help will be much appreciated.

Good question! There is a lot of credit card fraud in India, so you are certainly right to be wary of handing out your credit card details.

Is the hotel one with a good reputation? It might be useful to post the name of it here, so others can comment about this.

Hi Mel,

Thanks for your response. The place does have a good rep and I believe you are a fan of the place as well. It is Bentley's Hotel in Mumbai. This place is also Lonely Planet's pick.

Oh, The Bentley has an excellent reputation. I would be shocked if they did something dishonest. I havent stayed there myself, but it has been recommended by a lot of backpackers on travel sites and ones I met while travelling in Mumbai too.

But, yeah book in advance. The Bentley gets booked up.
