I bought my ticket to go to the world cup, and I have no place to stay! Any ideas?

I've been surfing the net, and just going thru very very very expensive finds of hotels at Johannesburg, South Africa. Reply to this

I recently stayed at Africa Centre Lodge in Benoni, Johannesburg.

Very nice and they offered great tours, free shuttle airport pick up and drop off, the hotel was 100% safe and secure, restaurant was great. It's VERY expensive (about $40US/night to stay in the dorm) although I've been told that everything around Johannesburg is. Reply to this

Hi,

I live in JHB and would like to give you some advice.
Sandton is the place where most tourists come and stay and I am still not too sure why. It is where most of the businesses are loctaed as well as one of the more popular shopping centres (this is where Nelson Madela square is located). Sandton is one of the upmarket suburbs in JHB. I imagine that a lot of the tourists will be staying here for the world cup as the one of the main 'Gautrain' departures is in Sandton. So many hotles are being constructed in Sandton to accommodate all the tourists. There is no doubt in my mind that the prices will be quite high especially during that time.
The only way to find places would be to google a couple. I have never stayed on the accommodation here as i live here so I don't have any recommendations for you (sorry). But try out safarinow.com as they have quite an extensive list of places to stay.
About the saftey in JHB, I'm sure that you have heard horror stories about our country (and I won't deny ony one of them as they are probably all true) but it is like any other country when it comes to watching your stuff and being smart about protecting your valuables. You need to be careful in any country you go to by locking your valuables away and locking doors etc. No need to stress, just be smart.
If you find a place and you are unsure, I will try my best to help where I can. If you have any questions, I will try and assist you😊

Good luck with your accommo investigation. Reply to this

Hi Soccerfan,

Try Marben Manor and Brentwood Lodge - both in Benoni. http://www.marbenmanor.co.za and http://www.brentwoodlodgecc.co.za At least I know that they comfortable - not flashy but good quality. Their prices are normally pretty decent but for the soccer - who knows....... Reply to this
