Hey everyone, Im traveling to pokhara from varanasi in october. Not sure how to go about getting there. Time is tight so I'm considering flying from Varanasi - Kathmandu - Pokhara rather than the 20 or so hour drive. Any suggestions? Are flights available from Varanasi to Kathmandu? Is it possible to hire a driver to take us from Varanasi to the border?

Thanks! Reply to this

Hi, the Indian Airlines operates from Varanasi to Kathmandu and you can book your tickets online on their website.

There are plenty of tour operators that will help you plan your travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara. There are several flight to and from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Pokhara is linked by 200 km road with Kathmandu. Time to travel by road from Kathmandu to Pokhara is about 6 hour and flight duration is 35 minutes. You can hire a cab to take you upto Pokhara quite easily once you reach Khatmandu.

Hope this info helps. Reply to this

Hello there,

I would recommend travelling from Kathmandu to Pokhara by road as well. The journey is beautiful, especially in October when the weather is probably at its very best. If you're short on time, you could always fly back from Pokhara to Kathmandu, but I would definitely go by road at least one way.

Hiring a cab could be pretty pricey though, so I would opt for the Greenline Bus. This is a great tourist service. It's comfy, you'll meet other friendly travellers, and a buffet lunch at the Riverside Resort is included in the ticket. It takes about 6 hours all in all, so if you leave early morning, you arrive mid-afternoon. Perfect!

If you have a bit more time, I would consider stopping at Chitwan National Park, which sits between Kathmandu and Pokhara. It's subtropical, relaxing and there's so much wildlife to see - elephants, rhinos, crocodiles. All sorts. The Greenline Bus will also take you to Chitwan, and then you can pick it up a few days later to go on to Pokhara.

Let me know if you need any more ideas. Nepal is probably my very favourite place in the world, so I'll happily go on about it forever!
