Postcards - Do you send them?

With so much communication done electronically and photos of everyplace on the internet these days, do you bother with sending postcards? Do you receive postcards from anybody?

My mother in law still sends us some. Then when she gets home, she sends and email to let us know that she sent a postcard.

I hardly send them to anybody these days. I used to send them to a prisoner I was writing to in the Bangkok Hilton, before he got out of prison. I now send them to a prisoner I write to, who is in a prison in Laos.

Yes, we still send postcards all the time to family and friends. Somehow it seems additional to electronic communication. You can keep in touch with all the news through email and blogs, but getting something in the post seems more special somehow.

We now only send them to family. Everyone else just gets to read the blog. We get postcards from my parents, and sometimes from couch surfers who have stayed with us and want to say thank you again after they have left. That is always really nice. Reply to this

I send one to my grandmother from every new place I go to and she has been keeping them since the 1st one, when I left home and moved to England, 7 years ago... she's the only one I send them to. Reply to this

I only send them to a few people now.

A few years ago my mother started decorating the toilet walls with postcards she had received from family (well traveled) and friends. Now when family members send her a postcard it just gets addressed to 'The Toilet Wall, adddress.........' :-) Reply to this

The last time I did was more than 20 years ago. And I did it only because I was away for 6 months and wanted my family to know where I went and was heading to........These days, I take photos with my mobile, and send them with a short note saying where I am . Reply to this

i get blank postcards, draw on them and send them to people who bother to write me letters.
i usually get one or two letters per location from people who want to talk to me, or people who heard about my postcards from word of mouth. Reply to this

I definitely still send postcards - there's something so much more special about a postcard having made it half way round the world than an email. In fact it's special even if it comes from a few miles down the road. My Mum and I send each other postcards every month just to say hi - much nicer to see that in the letterbox than a bill. I like the idea of decorating the toilet wall with them Jo - will suggest it to Mum as her kitchen wall is nearly full now from all the cards I've sent her! Reply to this

We still send postcards too - as Kris and Kate commented, it's seems more special. I know how much I love to receive things in the post (rather than a bill!) so we make an effort to send postcards to friends and family. Reply to this
