Hi,
My wife and I and our two children aged 9 and 11 are going to Vietnam in September'09 for a vacation. We would like to tour for 2 to 3 days in the Mekong Delta preferably combining cycling with boat trips in the canals and rivers. The idea of a homestay is also particularly appealing. We are on a limited budget and are wondering whether anyone else can offer some tour suggestions and / or provide any advice particulary in relation to travelling in this area with kids
Many thanks..
Reply to this Hi,
I've lived for few years in Vietnam. For me, except if you go with serious professionnals ( I don't know any)...cycling-kids-Vietnam...that's a NO No...and check my blog, I'm a Dad! The roads are simply too dangerous for it.
So now if you have people who exactly know where they bring you, you may consider.
Hope this help,
Peter

Reply to this Hi there
it sound like you family just want to take moderation cycling trip in Mekong region
here some suggustions for 3 days 2 night cyling
Day 1: Saigon - Cai Be - Vinh Long, tranfer to Cai Be then boat ride to Vinh Long, cycling for 20 km in the afternoon, good faciltity home stay , would be no problem for kids
Day 2: Vinh Long - Can Tho, about 65 km cycling distance, should have van or truck escort behide, stay at hotel or homestay again
Day 3: Cai Rang market - Saigon today just 30 km cycling distance. trip concluded at hotel's foyer around 5:30 pm, must trust good local travel agent otherwise you guys will have to cycling on traffic road instead off back road on village's parth
Reply to this Hello,
In my opinion, A visit to the Mekong Delta is so memorable because of the region’s diversity. Everyday scenes include schoolgirls clad in white ao dai cycling along country lanes; children riding on the backs of water buffalo; rice workers stooping in a sea of emerald; market vendors grinning behind stacks of fruit; bright yellow incense sticks drying at the roadside; flocks of storks circling over a sanctuary at dusk; Khmer monks walking mindfully in the shadow of pastel pagodas; locals scampering over monkey bridges or rowing boats on the Delta’s maze of channels.
Hope this help!
