How about my itinerary through Java and Bali

Hi everyone. Travelling through Java and Bali for three weeks in September 09. I have made up our itinerary and would appreciate any comments: does it seem reasonable, are we missing something big, etc.

As I said in the summary, we are travelling for 22 days through Java and Bali (arriving in Jakarta and departing from Denpasar, Bali).
I have made up a rough itinerary and would appreciate any comments or help about it : does it seem reasonable to you in three weeks, are we missing anything big. Also, any advice on how to go from one place to another would be appreciated...

Arrival in Jakarta at 1 PM - going straight to Ujung Kulon (perhaps spending the night in Caritas, what do you think?)
2/3 days in Ujung Kulon
1 day on Dieng Plateau (what is the best/ most practical place to stay at? I thought we would make our way back to Jakarta and take a train directly to the center of Java eg Pekalongan?)
2-3 days Yogyakarta (1 day city center, 1 day Borobudur/Prambanan, 1 day Parangtritis)
2 days Mount Bromo (trip included)
2 days Kawah Ijen (trip included)

Then to Bali. We will have about one week left. I thought we would split the week between Ubud and chilling out on the beach on the Padangbai coast. Any advice on where there are beautiful beaches withtout too much tourists welcome.

What do you think? Does that seem reasonable in the short amount of time that we have?
Any other advice?? Reply to this

right now I am at the Menjangan Resort which is a really amazing place in the island - the total antidote to the madness of the southern part which is now overrun and not what it used to be 20 years ago. This place is in the national park, they are into conservation in the forest and the reefs, and they do great snorkeling and diving trips to Menjangan Island. I am telling everyone who's coming to Bali about it because it's not very well known. Anyway, they have a website which you can check out - I've spent two months in Bali and this is one of my favourite places to date.

Hi Catarina,
Jakarta-Ujung Kulon by road might take good 4-5 hours of road trip, and lodging in Caritas area are pretty expensive as well (around USD 40 per night). Any activity planned in Ujung Kulon? Scuba Diving?

There are a lot to enjoy in Yogyakarta. I'm planning of Central Java trip at the moment, getting to Yogyakarta, stay for 2-3 days, a 1 night trip to Dieng, then continue north to Semarang before return to Jakarta. It might be around 1 week trip if you can spare.

Bromo and Kawah Ijen is in East Java. Do you have plan to stay at Malang, the nearest city to Bromo? DOn't forget to check the news, Bromo is an active volcano.

In Bali, Sanur might be less touristic, but if ou want something more secluded, then Menjangan might be the option. For 1 week, you might stay 2-3 night in Ubud, 2-3 night in Menjangan, and spend the last night in Kuta (due to proximity to the airport :D).

Enjoy your trip..... Reply to this

Dear Catarina,

Greeting from Bali Island,

Regarding your trip ti Indonesia we may suggest you to visit Sukuh, Ceto and Gedong Songo Temple during your stay in Yogyakarta on day 3 insted of Parangtritis. Nothing to see in Parangtritis and on the way.

During your stay in Bali we may recommend to stay in Bali Barat National Park at Menjangan Resort or Pemuteran Are which is not to touristic. and Candidasa Beach on the east part of Bali. Ubud also nice to stay at the end of your trip for about 3 nights or 2 night so you could explore balinese life and art.

Have a nice trip and if you have any help from my side during your stay in Bali please do not hesitate to contact me at
Sincerely yours
Putu Rio
