Can you suggest a 3 week itinary for Vietnam in December. I hear the south has the best weather over this time. Is that right? We want to have a bit of beach life mixed in with some culture and great food. I dont know much about this country yet so any suggestions on where to visit and stay would be great. Thanks
Reply to this Hi
It's cold in the North in December. The North is more temperate than the South, so you will need a coat and you won't get any beach time up there. We arrived in North Vietnam in December and I lived in my fleece for months.
In three weeks you could do Hanoi to Saigon or visa versa - stopping at places like Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Dalat on the way. A lot of people on travelblog have done this route. I suggest you start by looking through the Vietnam travel blogs. These will give you an illustrated picture of where you can go.

3 weeks is just perfect to see Vietnam. We have done a trip in Vietnam in 24 days in December 2008 and enjoy Christmas eve in Hoi An, that was great. You can travel from South to North of Vietnam. The floating market in Mekong delta is incredible. Snorkelling in Nha Trang is also great. We liked ha long bay very much as well. We also had short trek in Sapa.
Reply to this Hi Thinski,
I'm from VietNam, I've lived in both South and North. 3 weeks in Vietnam, it's a perfect time for travel.
You can start from Hanoi or Saigon, after that, you make a tour around Vietnam....

3 weeks from North to south is perfect, the weather on december is very cold in hanoi lower 15 degre C, you should take the coat.
This time is the Tet holiday, we call the great holiday traditional, you can discover our culture and special food beacause it's great holiday.
Reply to this There are many things you can do in 3 weeks, believe me, especially during December. However, it's really hard for you to enjoy Tet holiday since it start in middle of February due to Chinese calendar.
Reply to this Great, December is a great time to travel to Vietnam, except you can't swim. Hanoi, Hoi An, Hue, Sai Gon... all are great to go
Reply to this Hey there, wow I'm so jealous as it's going to be a 2011 before I'm back in Vietnam, I hope you have a wonderful time.
I started and ended my trip in Ho Chi Minh City, we had about 2 weeks and didn't get any higher than Hoi An. there is just so much to do.
I would start with Ho Chi Minh, fantastic place to get your bearings and get an idea of the place and of course day trips to the Mekong and Cu Chi Tunnels a must do.
Da Lat would be a debatable as to whether I would recommend it for a short full country trip?
. I always happy to recommend a wonderful country and I recently discovered that the hotel I found in HCMC is still there. wonderful especially if you are new to travelling or a little nervous. I also know a Cyclo/Honda Om driver in the city so if you want to avoid too much hassle and start off with someone you can trust give me a shout. 😊
Reply to this Hello Thinski,
if you have a plan to travel on this time, you should start with HCMC, a beautiful and active city in ASIAan. You take a tour to the mekong and the tunnel..place u must see..
