guys...I need to print it out and consider all these experiences carefully with my partner... as they are very detailed and interesting! We have in mind the same but having all this info at once is very handy! ANyone can suggest a cheap ticket to Melbourne from Europe? the best ( in terms of costs/time saving...)flight company and period of the year? I have a person to meet there and then maybe start the RTW from there as Aus Dollar is more convenient as someone above said...

Thanks! Reply to this

Hello Francesca 😊

Rather than a particular flight company I suggest you use a search engine which searches for cheap flights from a number or airlines. The one I usually use for long haul flights is http://www.billigfluege.de/ Keep your search open minded. ie search for more than one date per month. Flight prices can vary on different days of the week as well as times of the year.

You could consider flying Air Asia (a budget airline) from London to KL, and then from KL to Australia.

Hiya, when are you planning on going to australia?? As Singapore airlines have a really good deal at the moment either fly between sept and beginning of dec or jan-march i think and the flights are like £400 return, you have to juggle the times etc. to get the cheaper flights but its worth it. I was just looking today so I know they are doing it. So may be even cheaper for a single. Reply to this

Hi Francesca,

My mum booked flights to Sydney a week ago, flying tomorrow, going via Kuala Lumpur. They were £450 per person return including taxes (she normally pays a minimum of £850). They are staying over in KL for 2 nights there and back (flying with Malaysian Airlines). Very good deals around at the moment, she booked them through Austravel. You have to travel out between certain dates, but they give about a month/2 months, you can return whenever you want.

Singapore Airlines has a sale on at the moment for flights from London, with prices to Melbourne starting at £389 and Sydney and Brisbane £399. After looking at Sydney cheapest i found was £406.

The deal's on flights departing from London Heathrow between 1 September to 09 December 09 and 16 January to 31 March 2010 - which is SUMMER time down under. There is still good availability at the moment, but the sale ends 30 June.

Kayak.co.uk is a good place to search for these flights.

Hope this helps! Reply to this

Thanks guys!!!
these have been really helpful!
I am leaving on September thoug. I see if I can make it throu London, maybe there are better prices then from Italy.
I had a look at Venice-dubai-Melbourne... without the Singapore Stop... but it's more expensive than the rates you suggest. I'll have a look at different companies!!! Thanks again!!
