Totally random, I found your thread and wondered where I can find the place you stayed in a beach hut for 140-200 a night.
> Was it the nicest beach to stay long term?
> I am traveling back to NZ just me and my 3 year old son (he is very cruisy and well travelled) but want to get some advice on where to go.
> Is it fairly easy and friendly?

> "You can get huts with double bed and bathroom for as little as 140Bahts per night.
> If you are planning to stay for a while they often offer you a discount especially if it is not tourist season. The one I stayed in on Koh Pha Ngan cost 200 Bahts per night. The owner said if I stay for a while I can have a discount. I said I would stay for 2 weeks. She then reduced the price to 140 per night. " Reply to this

Any ideas on best places to stay? From September.

Basic Beach hut on beach? Cheap and basic. Pretty location I can just relax with my 3 year old son.

Would like to see monks and Tigers, elephant rides. . Markets. Preferably stay away form tourists.

Thanks a lot.

How long do you think would be right? I am in no rush to get back to NZ.

Friendly face would be nice (",)

Hello Josephine 😊

I stayed in one on Koh Pha Ngan. It was run by a family and very child friendly and they were so nice with my daughter who was 5 at the time. And I think they were trustworthy, so you could probably leave your passport and moneybelt with them to look after(but that is my opinion. Judge for yourself if you go there, in case things have changed)

I stayed on Ao Cholok Lam beach on the North of the island. From the village walk onto the beach and turn right. Walk for 5 minutes until you get to Sarisas Place. The place I stayed in is at the right of Sarisas Place.

When you arrive at Koh Pha Ngan there are mini busses going to various locations on the island so ask for one going to Ao Cholok.

I stayed there for 2 weeks. It was nice to sit there at the beach for a couple of weeks. Rushing around with a little kid is stressful. And the beach provided good entertainment for my daughter.

This was 3 years ago, so I dont know how much the huts would cost at this year.

Krabi has some pretty wet and rough weather at this time of the year so it is best avoided.

Monks, Tigers, Elephant rides do not go in the same sentence as island/beach hut 😊

For the above you are better off doing the North Thailand circuit (BKK-Kanchanaburi/Riwer Kwai-Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai)

Alternatively if you want to retreat into nature and not really bother about shopping, TV, McDonalds etc go down to Chumpon (shoompon) from BKK and take a ferry to Koh Tao. Excellent for snorkelling and generally getting that lost island feeling yet having a 7-11 in arms reach.

If you want a resort and more touristy experience hit Koh Samui Reply to this

Hello Aleksandra 😊

Do you mean your credit card? If so, dont email it. Never put your credit card details in an email.

Also, credit card scams are common in Thailand. Be very careful about where you use your credit card there, if you must use it at all. I always pay for everything in Thailand with cash.

Heyyyyyy thank you so much for your response!😊

Yeah we thought it was a bit dodgy but apparently theres no other way to pay for it and their number wont work?!

So i dont understand how everyone else went to that resort and paid in a secure way?..

If they do not have a secure website for you to book on with your credit card, I would choose a different resort.

But, even if you just show up without a booking, I think you will have no problem finding accomodation in Thailand. I never prebook, even during tourist season. There are always plenty of places for me to stay. Reply to this

When I was on Koh Pha Ngan I stayed on Ao Cholok Lam beach on the North of the island. From the village walk onto the beach and turn right. Walk for 5 minutes until you get to Sarisas Place. Sarisas place has good huts and so does the place to the right of it.

On Koh Samui I stayed in a hut in a place called Rasta Baby on Hat Bo Phut beach. The huts here cost a bit more than the ones on some of the other islands. The one I stayed in was a double for around 7 Euros per night. Also the beach there is very quiet so if you need night life it is not the place for you.

These are not prebookable. But, there are other places nearby, if they are full. On Koh Samui, Charlies bungalows are near Rasta Baby. They are right on the beach, and cost more than Rasta baby, but are not expensive. Reply to this

Im going to Krabi in December with the boyfriend. Peask season and Ive been told to go out there and find a beach hut for the best price. However Im concerned that everything decent will be booked up as im there from the 26th Dec to 4th Jan.

Do you guys have any recommendations for good beach huts in Krabi? I dont mind paying abit more if its got a few luxuries like hot water!

Also any advice on booking now or when I get there?

Thanks,

For Josephine I could recommend a tiny beach near Phuket airport called Nai Yang where you do get true thai style huts still for 150bht - 300bht (depending on the season) a night which is a perfect destination for young children due to the very calm seas there. Its a 200bht taxi ride at most from the airport and very very secluded and quiet..no nightclub scene. There are local nightmarkets and you can find tour agencies that will help you with elephant treks for you and your son all along the beach. Id suggest booking somewhere online for the first night and walking up to the beach huts and doing a bit of negotiating when you get there..they will always start at 500bht a night. Reply to this

Hi Alliyah Candy
Definitely book when you get there. Krabi town is just a stop off but there are plenty of hotels in Ao Nang near the beach. We stayed there last Xmas, booked in advance and wish we hadn't. People were arriving Xmas eve and not having a problem. Railay beach is gorgeous but the hotels are quite expensive as is Koh Phi Phi. I didn't find too many huts on that coast except on Koh Lanta.

If it's beach and huts on you want then the North & West coast of Koh Phangan take some beating. We paid 300 baht a night last year.

Have a great trip

Chris & Lisa - thank you so much for the response. I was worried as i was looking at some sites and all the nice cabanas were all booked up! Its probably a nice cabana im looking for than a hut (after looking at some pictures lol).

We will book when we get there!

Thanks again! Reply to this

I am planning a trip to Thailand in Feb-March and I am fascinated by the pictures of the beaches in/near Krabi, with the giant rock hills jutting out of the turquoise water.

I am hoping to find a hut/cabana near the beach, or better yet, at a little elevation looking down at the beach. Probably in the $10-25/day range (300-900 Baht). I want to stay to chill/rest for 15-30 days. I will need decent internet accessible in or near where I am staying though. Any recommendations for places to stay?

I definitely like to be away from the tourist areas, and to be able to easily travel to thai villages and areas that aren't full of westerners (I'm learning some Thai!). Will this area have that or is it too close to Phuket?

From reading this strand it sounds like I should book something for a few days to get my bearings and then find something I like once I am there. Thoughts on this? Reply to this

Hi Sunshinekali

It depends on what time and where you are arriving from. To get to Krabi you can get the Ferry from Phuket, fly in from Bangkok or KL or Bus in from the East coast Islands. Railay and Tonsai are gorgeous but it is much more built up.

I definitely recommend Koh Phangan, there are huts on hills and huts on the beaches and both there and Koh Tao next door seem to us a lot more chilled than the Andaman Island, with the possible exception of Koh Lanta, which is also amazing. All of the Islands are full of westerners, that's the nature of the Islands.

If you want to visit a more rural Thailand then the North of the country is amazing, and also very relaxing.

There really is no need to book, unless you are arriving late.

Have a wonderful trip
