Hi,

Not a speciallist if you want to do it overland. But by flights, it's very easy...Bangkok, KL and than on to Kota Bharu...

You can find dirt cheap flights from BKK to KL. Be carefurl thought, if you fly on a none low-coast, the terminal in KL is different from the low cost terminal.

You can do KL to Kota Bharu for less than 30usd return.

Once in Kota Bharu, taxi to Kuala Besut, than boat to Perhentian.

I would say the cheapest and most effective is Airasia from BKK to Kota Bharu.

Will be there next month, so a lot more info on it.

If you get the kids, I spoke to few people who do advise to stay on Besar, the big island instead of Kecil, more backpacker and more noisy at night.

With family, fly would defenitively be way easier.

Have fun,

Hello PA,

I dont think that Perhantian Besar (Big Perhantian) is better then Perhantian Kacil (Small Perhantian) ,, More Guest houses in the Kacil Island, plus when i was there few years back, Perhanitian Besar were so quit and you dont see tourists, very few. While Perhantian kacil was full of tourist and i couldnt find any free guest house, and i paid for the only hotel there. I enjoyed Perhantian kacil more.

you can try both, as they are very near from each other.
