loads of apologies if this question has already been answered - can't find answer in forum... leaving dreary UK on 3rd june for 6 month adventure in SE Asia and have had conflicting advise from STA, Friends and websites... so giving you lot a go now - please be nice and helpful!!

have very little plan of exactly where i'm going to be and when but definately in thailand for first month (tourist visa 30 day stay etc should be cool for this) but then planning on taking in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia etc before heading back into thailand and then onto indonesia....

question numero uno - am i only allowed to re-enter thailand twice for max period of 60 days without getting multiple entry visa? or can i wing it and enter several times for a shorter period?? probably just being dizzy but getting a bit baffled by different info (good luck me getting myself around these countries on my own then ey??!!)

question numero due? (not sure that due is correct.... ) Indonesia i know i can get 1 month visa at airport when arrive.... do i need to get Visa's for Cambodia, Vietnam or Laos before i arrive? or on the border? and how long does each respective country let you stay without getting in trouble with officials... don't really want to piss anyone off and am likely to do it without proper prep so... please help - and apologies for waffling.... very excited only 19 more sleeps til i fly and am absolutely unprepared!! whoop!

Hi

You can get the visas for Cambodia and Laos on most of the common borders. You need to get the Vietnamese visa in advance. You can get it in Bangkok, any of the travel agents on Khao san road will be able to arrange it for you. You can get it done in two days, which is the most expensive, or in 3 or more days. You should get 30 day visas for these countries, so that is how long you can stay. You can extend visas for Vietnam within the country. I don't know about Cambodia and Laos, I've never stayed longer in those countries.

As for the Thai visa, I'm pretty sure there are massive posts on this on these forums. They recently changed the rules and they may or may not have changed it again. Last I heard, you can get a 30 day visa exemption stamp when you fly in. You can then extend it by 15 days by crossing the border into one of the neighbouring countries. Bear in mind that to officially qualify for the visa exemption, you need to have a ticket out of Thailand. Apparently immigration at the airport doesn't really bother with this, but your airline may not let you on the plane without some proof of leaving. Although you mention having a tourist visa for 30 days. Is this one you have bought at the consul or embassy. If you have this then you don't need a return ticket. Again, to extend it you need to leave the country and you will get a 15 day visa on entry.

I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong. It changes all the time so most people are totally baffled by this!!

Hope this helps!

Kate
