Hi All,
I am planning to visit Malaysia between 29th June and 6th July with my wife.
Places that i want to visit are KL and Langkawi. Any suggestions on things to try and things that i should avoid while in Malaysia. Also in one weeks time can i visit any other place in Malaysia.
This is my 1st visit to Malaysia.

Hi,

If you are in KL, you can do a day trip to Genting Highlands (2,000 meters above sea level)which has an indoor & outdoor theme park with a casino etc. You can also visit Putrajaya or A’famosa. If you have time, you have the option of visiting Malacca, the oldest trading port in Malaysia.

If you are driving or taking the bus from KL to Langkawi, then the commute will be long, so then you may not get as much time to see other places.

Malaysia is like any other modern country, no real do & dont before you travel.

Hi,

Sorry to say, but the first and main question is what is your budget.

Langkawi is gorgeous, but beside the jungle and beaches, there is not much to see.

KL is fun, but it's a huge metropolis. If it's your first visit to Malaysia, and you are not use to visit places by jumping every 24 hours, I would keep only to both places.

Let me know if you need more advise, but give me a little idea of what you are truly looking for an your budget.

Fun to say, we'll be in Malaysia around the same time... Reply to this

Guys(Tanya and PA) thx for such a wonderful response.

My budget for the trip is approx 800 dollars(stay +food).
I am looking to visit some places but i don't want to spend the majority of my time travelling.
Think ill keep the places to visit as KL and Langkawi.
If you have been to malaysia before can u recommend a hotel. budjet around 150 MRD. in KL and Langkawi.
Nice to hear tht u would be there at the same time. We could catch up some time... :-)

Hi,

Not great on my side at find hotels in that budget, sorry for this. Have a look at asiahotels.cm, or even at zuji.com.

For that bracke of price it may also be worth having a look at the lonely planet.

Have you think at some smaller island, like Tioman or Perenthians. It will be cheaper and less touristic in the price range you are looking for. Reply to this

You should definitely try Malaysian cuisine, a must for all travelers to this part of the continent. There is really nothing that you should avoid (or did you mean rough/dangerous places?), as traveling is about experiencing the places and the hospitality. As PA Leslie did mention, you won't have much time for other places/states due to the commute distances between KL and Langkawi.

Budget wise, I would suggest to bring extra since you'll be heading to Langkawi, one of Malaysia's premier tourist destination. For KL, there are plenty of budget accommodation and food are known to be relatively cheap. You can check out Tourism Malaysia for detailed information, but for exact name of budget hotels and restaurants, you may need to google it or get Lonely Planet Malaysia for the in's & out's.

Have a great time.
