Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh

has anyone done this route?
15 years ago, April 8th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #68669
Am hesitating between doing a small tour of the Mekong (2 days) and return to Saigon ,then flying to Phnom Penh and on to Siem Reap, or doing the tour by boat of the delta, through Chau Doc and continuing by boat up to Phnom Penh by speedboat. Can anyone advise who has done either?
We are a couple of gray nomads ie not so young ,reasonably fit . We would have to take all our stuff with us in the second option, that's why I am not sure. Also is it very strenuous?
Is there that much to see on the way by boat to Phnom Penh? And how many days do we need for it?
thanks all. Reply to this

Hello Ruth Sheffer,

It would be better to be 3 days. you would take the trip itinerary
like this: My Tho-Ben Tre-CanTho-ChauDoc-PhnomPenh. no worry about your luggage. it will be on bus, boat. many people do this way too. enjoy your trip and have fun! Reply to this

hi my friend you go by flight , the cost is very hight, you can go by boat My Tho-Ben Tre-CanTho-ChauDoc-PhnomPenh. , it is wonderfull trip for you, you can enjoy tour in mekong delta you look and work with falmer, or fishman in village , you see diferent thing never see before, many people live on boat like their home ,

if you like some travel agent , you can visit yahoo and search asiatravel or asiatours online, you can see some agent and send your request to them , to ask tour and the way from vietnam to caobodia Reply to this

Hello Ruth Sheffer,

You may do 2 days mekong delta My Tho Ben Tre Can Tho (low budget 20 usd/pax. deluxe 110 usd/pax)then back to Saigon for a comfortable night. the next morning 8 am or 1 pm you can take a coach trip to Phnom Penh at 12 usd/pax; flight is 100usd/pax. it takes 6 to 7 hours. from Phnom Penh to SiemReap, you may take speed boat (4 hours) about 25 usd/pax or Coach trip 6 to 7 hours 10 usd/pax.
it is boring to be too long on boat because the first day and seconday you already on boat, islands, villages. if you want to contact to book or inquire further infos, you may contact one of this provider via . hope you have your right choice of this itinerary.

Hi there, I booked a 2 day tour last year from HCMC to PP and it was brilliant. I'd already been travelling for nearly 3 weeks independantly through Vietnam and needed a break from planning things. It was a well planned out tour starting with a bus ride to the Mekong Delta and continuing by boat through the waterways and villages. We then stayed on a really nice floating hotel and continued the next the next morning by boat up the Delta to the border to Cambodia where our guides organized out visas etc. We then continued in a coach to Phnom Penh. If I were to do it again I'd probably also plump for a 3 day tour and see more things along the way Reply to this

feel free to PM any time for additional info. I also started by flying from BKK to Hanoi and then basing myself there to go to Sapa and halong Bay and then started heading down the country. it was brilliant. I also had several days in the Central Highlands with Easyriders-brilliant. and also used Hanoikids for my first day in hanoi as they provide a free guiding service to improve their English.
