You can get them for a number of different companies. UK post office, FairFX, ICE all issue them to people but all with different rates & charges. The card is basically a mastercard but without the credit card options - ie. you can only spend what you put on the card and nothing more. The plus point, is that you can withdraw money from any ATM that has a mastercard logo!!

Does anyone have any experience in using these??? If so, are they any good?? And which company did they use??

I dont want to be taking travellers cheque's or cash as I am travelling round Asia for 4 months. Currently, all I have is a debit/maestro card and dont want to run the risk of not being able to withdraw money out

Well, lots of mobs (including all the major banks) were trying to flog them off in NZ before I left. For getting cash, they seemed to have no advantages over a standard ATM card, and plenty of disadvantages (mainly excessive fees). So I didn't bother.

Maestro cards are surely useable anywhere on the cirrus network? Which in most countries (notable exception: Japan) means pretty much any ATM. Just have a little cash and/or travellers cheques (USD is best; euros and GBP would work also) as a backup. Reply to this

Hi
I'm off travelling in a few days - first stop Austria – so glad that flights are getting back to normal!
I had a similar conversion on here a few weeks ago - I very kindly received a lot of great recommendations - there is a lot of prepaid cards out there but the most popular seemed to be the caxton fx travel money card - mainly because it doesn't charge ATM fees and they got me a great exchange rate. Have already received and put money on my euro card (i've also got a Global traveller for out of the eurozone) - all you have to do is ring them! Hope this helps.
