Hi,

I'll be in SE Asia for 3 months this summer, and I'm wondering if anyone could suggest a relatively safe, reliable way to get from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City for a relatively cheap price.

I would prefer not to fly, as I'm on a poor student budget (ha!), but I've also heard that there are no direct train routes from BKK to HCMC.. is this true? Are there lots of transfers along the way?

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance. Reply to this

Why dont you try the fly from Bangkok to Hanoi, Air Asia has cheap price for this rout.
Check this: http://www.airasia.com/site/vn/home.jsp,
Then travel down to Hochiminh city, through all cities of Vietnam. This trip could be fun and very interesting.
No another way I think, or you go by ground from Bangkok through Cambodia then by boat to Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh city.
Sure this way have a lot of transfers. And you can see Cambodia also in your trip.
Best wishes.

You can take the fly from Bankkok to Ho chi Minh, because, the same prise as from Bankkok to Hanoi, and also has directly flight route, and choose the cheapest airlines. Of course has no train route, may be in the future! Reply to this

Think of Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways, Air Asia as the key airlines.

Or take a tuk tuk...but bring your own butt pad.

Good luck and let us know how it goes so we all can learn. Reply to this
