We are going to travel Asia for a few months and want to know if we should get our Diving ticket before we leave? Or is it cheaper over there? Not as Safe? Or is diving simply too expensive and not worthwhile?

So we have been priced around $525 to get a diving course completed in OZ and we want to know firstly as we will be the money tight backpacker type if its worth Diving in Asia at all.

We have never dived before but many people say this is an amazing experience and thats its a must do. We dont want to be in the scenario where we come back and people ask "Well did you go diving at all" and us saying "oh nar couldnt be bothered bla bla bla!!"

So just a heads up on rough costs to dive in Asia (some of the top spots) and if its an amazing experience, a safe experience or should we just stick to packs on backs and keep our feet on earths soil!

Thanks alot guys. Reply to this

Hi,

Is it 525A$ or USD? It's not the same thing anymore. If it is in AUS$, it's not a bad deal.

The cheaper place will be in Thailand, Malaysia or Vietnam, and you can do it once you get there. No need to do your certification ahead.

Diving all around Asia can be amazing. Go on my blog and you will find few places...

Diving in Vietnam is less than average. In Thailand, you need to be careful of the season....the "right" season on the West coast...is the same time as the "wrong"season on the East coast.

In Malaysia, you want to go on the East Coast of Continental Malaysia...Sipadan may be too expensive for you.

There are thousands of places to dive all around the Philippines to...and this on a budget...with sone worldwide diving. ...and you can say the same for Indonesia.

Diving around the region will cost you from everything to 25usd to 50usd per dive including the equipement. It's never going to be cheap...

For the safety, it's easy...you can have a good idea of the place just by walking in the diveshop and see the rental equipment. To be on the safe side, only use 5 stars padi schools.

Have fun!

Oh ,

I went to see your blog....few comments...if you go up or down continental Malaysia, and you are on a budget, do it on the East coast instead of West coast...I speak of Cherating, Tioman and Perhentians.

If you start in Singapore, you can do overland Malaysia and Thailand, from the go to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam...pretty easy if you have a lot of time. From Hanoi you can reach South China by train and you are easily up north...

Have fun!
