Hello,
I am planning a trip this summer and the above route is causing me a bit of bother. I have read elsewhere that it is possible to take a bus from Hanoi to Vientiane, and presumably the same is possible from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. However, to avoid retracing my steps during the trip, I was wondering if a more direct route is possible? I was thinking that one might be able to get a bus to the border and then another one to Luang Prabang, but I'm only speculating. If anyone has done this trip any is able to adivse me then it would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Andy
Reply to this Hi,
Has bus from Hanoi to Vientian everyday, depart at about 6 P.m
Reply to this Hey,
Thanks for the times. I had heard about this bus. What is it like? I've heard it's pretty rough going and takes pretty much a whole day- is that correct? Also, I was hoping to find a direct bus to Luang Prabang, rather than Vientiane, is one exists.
Cheers,
Andy
Reply to this it is a 45seats car from Hanoi - Ninh Binh - Vinh - Cau treo border gate
Reply to this Thanks for the tips. Is it possible though to cross at any of the other borders? Nam Cam and Nam Xoi seem to make the most sense geographically. If so, is there a bus that goes from Hanoi to these crossings, and then another that goes to Luang Prabang?
Thanks
Reply to this Hi, I dont know about local bus in Lao, but I think, there is bus from Vientian to Luang prabang
Reply to this Right, I've managed to piece together a route at last! It looks like it is possible to travel from Hanoi to Dien Bien Phu (cheap flights also available with Vietnam airlines). From here there appears to be a bus 3 times a week to Muang Khua in Laos and then another one to Luang Prabang. Sounds like a bit of an adventure!
If there is anyone out there who has made this trip before thenI would be extremely grateful if you could let me know how it went- how long was it, what were the buses like etc etc.
Many thanks,
Andy
