Red Lantern Hostel was a nice place to stay in Beijing. It's down the hutongs and as you walk in the area around it you feel like you're in the 'real Beijing'. We also booked our trip to the Great Wall with them which was really good. We booked them through one of the hostel websites - hostelworld or hostelbookers I think. Reply to this

Sorry, I can't remember. We were travelling on a fairly tight budget though so it won't have cost much. Reply to this

Just came back from Beijing where I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express Hotel near the airport. The hotel is six months old, shiny clean, friendly people working there, and the price comes with two buffet breakfasts. It was 250 RMB, which is about $35 US. However, I did get that price through a travel agent in Beijing. I do suppose the price could be a little higher in March, as tourist season would be approaching. There was also an apartment hotel a block or so away for 168 RMB, but not as nice, but still better than most of the hostels. Both in a very nice neighborhood

As to March weather, should be quite pleasant at the end of March. I have been there also at that time of year. However, there is a chance of a dust storm then. Bring clothes that layer, just in case it is cooler than usual. It was about 55 degrees when I left the other day. Reply to this

The weather depends on where you want to visit in China. There is a big difference between the weather of south China and North China. If you go to Beijing and Shanghai, it will be a little colder at that time. But it won't affect your trip in these cities. In southern China, it has become warmer and warmer in March. For weather of China, you can refer to the site:
