New question!
Has anyone been to kanchanaburi? and if so how is it?
I'm thinking of going there as part of my travel but can't find that much info about it, if I were to go there would I need to previously book somewhere to stay or would I easily find somewhere cheap on the day of arrival? grateful for any answers! Reply to this

Hello Polly 😊

I have been to Kanchanaburi.

It is a lovely little place and especially interesting for those interested in WW2 history.

There is plenty of backpacker type accomodation. The cheapest single room is around 100 Bahts per night at the Jolly frog backpackers hostel. There are double rooms with bathrooms available in the Blue Star Guesthouse.

Kanchanaburi is just a few hours by bus from Bangkok as as far as I remember busses go frequently.

No need to prebood accomodation. I found it easily when I arrived. In fact the cheap places cant be prebooked online and booking by phone or email is pointless. These bookings are rarely honoured on arrival. Never send a deposit. It is too likely that you would arrive and nobody will know anything about your deposit.

It's a great place. Somewhere nice and relaxed. If you want to do a cooking class in Thailand head to Apple Guesthouse and Restaurant in Kanchanaburi. Also, consider a ride on the 'Death Railway'. It's very interesting and when you get off at the other end you can wait in the village for a local bus which takes you to the Hell Fire Pass Museum. Again, very interesting.
I agree with Mell, plenty of accommodation there too.
If you need any more info send me a message or take a look at our blog, there's a section from Kanchanaburi on it. Reply to this

If you bus it -
BKS Public Bus Line 81
Air Con, First class
Sai Tai Mai - South Bus Terminal Pier 4 Boromratchchonnani Rd, Bangkok
to Thanon Saengchuto (rd) Kanchanaburi
100 B/per person
Blue Bus - 1st class buses should leave Bangkok every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 22:30, take about 2 hours,
Tell cab driver Sai Tai Mai / Pin Klow (which is the bus station near Pin Klow)

Once at the bus depot in Kanchanaburi, walk a couple of blocks away and get a mototaxi or songtaew to take you to GH such as Apples. If they are full there are a bunch of places up the street.

You can find info about Kanchan at http://www.kanchanaburi-info.com/en/ or wiki travel or

We really enjoyed our short time there by going to Erawan Falls and of course the (in)famous Tiger Temple.
