Is the South of Laos worth seeing?
I'm trying to plan an itinerary including Vietnam & Cambodia and wondering which way to go. The major blocking point is whether to fly between Luang Prabang and Pakse as everyone I've seen said not to bother with Vientiane.
AM also worried about the Laos airlines safety record... Reply to this

Vientiane is ok - highlights - the Buddha Park and a Swedish Bakery - but a good place to meet some locals - we ended up at some local rock concert one evening.

It all depends how much time you have; and how much you enjoy flying as opposed to the road/bus trips.

From Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng - one of the nicest river scenes world wide - plus rope swings and inflated tires. Vang Vieng - Vientiane - Pakse (~12hrs bus) and Don Deit (4000 islands) - but then getting onwards from this area is tricky - the journey to Phon Penn - is a long one.

It's a journey I made and very much enjoyed. HTH Reply to this

What's the road journey like? I've heard scary reports about LP to VV. Reply to this
