Have been looking at various options for accomodation for Krabi
would prefer somewhere close to beach/beachfront with pool
pref chilled informal even rustic
Any advice/suggestions will be much appreciated

Reply to this Hey bridgescarr, I don't remember there being too many places w/ pools. One I can think of was Sripet which we had looked at but decided we wanted to stay closer to the action. The other was a place friends stayed at called Golden Hill. They said it was rather expensive for their budget at about 1800 baht (they usually paid 300) but they splurged. Neither one is rustic.
Krabi is a chill place and if you are flying in, the shuttle bus will drop you where ever you want or if you take it to the end, you can walk back up the street from the tourist office they drop you at and you will find Guesthouses all along that street. If you go down the sois off that street, there even more GH's tucked in the back. A little patience and asking to see the room will net and little bargaining will usually net a decent room.
Are you planning on staying in Ao Nang at all? Although not as chill as Krabi (I loved Krabi), it will have more places w/ pools and is more touristy if you really need a pool. Of course the prices seem to be a little higher.
I say if you want chill, stay in Krabi, song thaew to Ao Nang, Longtail to Railey and sit on the beach.
